I brought this show up in another thread, but I think it deserves it's own thread. Here's what I said about it. It's based on a series of books. A woman from 1946 England magically goes back in time to 1746 Scotland and becomes involved with Highlander culture. That's all I'll say, but if you've read the books, you know the plot. It's developed by Ronald D. Moore of DS9 and Battlestar Galactica fame. Ira Steven Behr is also involved as well as Bear McCreary. It starts off kind of slow and kind of chick flickey, but it picks up after a few episodes. There's enough for men and women. The historical accuracy is pretty good. There's a shit ton of sex scenes, to the point where it's boring. The first three seasons are on Netflix and two more seasons on Starz. Overall, it's pretty good and well written. I'm all caught up with all five seasons and I think it's an outstanding show. I highly reccomend this.
Yep, I love Outlander. It's a different take on the time travel story, and I like the twists and turns as the seasons progress. I agree the sex scenes can be a bit much, but this show is not afraid to be extremely brutal, especially when it comes to rape. If you've seen all five seasons, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I don't know which of the three was most disturbing, but Season 1 I think takes the cake in that department.
Yeah, the writing is outstanding. It's very easy to follow and is basically writing 101 as far as structure goes. They take real care in getting the story just right. I agree that the first season rape scenes were the most brutal, but the season five finale was really good as well. The songs stick in my head because they really do a good job of revolving the music around the plot. There were a few really stand out scenes through each season that really stands out. This show also shows us really strong female characters without it being SJW agenda driven or Mary Sue. Each character gets something to do. You can tell the writers know what they're doing and love the story they're telling. It's a really phenomenal show.
