I think it’s important to have a discussion about the legacy of slavery and racism in the country and we do starting in sixth grade history, which I think is an appropriate age for starting to have that discussion. What I don’t agree with CRT dismisses the idea of individuals making decisions that put them in a bad situation and that has nothing to do with the system being racist.

Do you have any links to CRT content that does that dismissal?

Recognition of systematic racial issues isn't the same as thinking they are the only factors influencing an individual's success.

Do you really think academic analysis doesn't control for different variables and take them into account?

What do you think of the difference in how the law treats crack cocaine and powdered cocaine? My teachers didn't wait until I could tie my shoes before being shitty towards me, why the fuck are we waiting till 6th grade before racism can be discussed? My Jewish friends learned about the Holocaust in Hebrew school by the age of seven and all of them had bomb threats against their synagogues normalized to them well before that. My Latine friends were having discussions w their kids the whole 4 yrs in office about deportations because of Trump's lunatic ravings.

Pretty sure I've known about Passover and the Crucifixion of Christ and all sorts of other biblical horrors (slavery was just accepted as a given) for as long as I can remember, just like every other kid that went to church at least occasionally. It's absurd to suggest that kids need to be eleven before they learn about unpleasant topics.

I was in elementary school when we played a game called nigger pile. The game was basically about declaring one person it and then everyone piling up and beating on them. I came home an learned what the N word meant because I was happy I was not the one beaten up for a change. My mom was not pleased about me using the word and explained what it meant to me, and why the game was wrong. I was in a 99.9 percent white school. I do not remember which grade it was exactly, but I know it was below fourth grade because of the playground we were on that day.

Maybe we should be discussing these things earlier. I did not die or curl up in a ball. I understood that the N word was really horrible. Over the years the context of that game became important to me as I met the only black kid in our elementary school and he became my best friend in high school. I knew the world was fucked up towards black people from the start, and I knew I did not want to be a part of that. 3rd grade or below was where I was able to realize that was bullshit, and ignorance of those realities meant you propagated terms like that.

So I think we should be teaching these things at a younger and younger age because I see my nephew growing up even better than I did because he is exposed to these ideas more and more, and he is not coddled in some racist bubble until he is old enough to understand that racism is a necessary evil that we cannot speak of like whypipo teach.

Of course it should be taught. Again, saying that white people = bad shouldn’t be taught. CRT assumes that individual decisions don’t matter because the system is racist. It negates other conclusions including that the system isn’t racist or that black people have a disproportionate lack of fatherhood in their families that likely contribute to the situation. Not to be all Bill Cosby, but there’s definitely something to that.. it’s not just blacks, it’s also white trash trailer fucks too.

However, your idea neglects the reality that white people decided in many cases they were the superior race and used their skin color to determine who was better. If that is bad then white people were bad. I am sorry to let you know that even though it makes you feel bade people of your skin color have used that skin color to justify bad things, which is white people being bad in many cases. That is the fucking truth.

Of course it's fine that these exercizes are done, and in no way is it indoctrination. It's critical thinking on the perception of privilege, even if IMO a few of the questions aren't particularly relevant.

If I engaged in that exercise though, if I reacted honestly I'd probably get some looks from the instructors. A lot of those things that they ask you to step back for have indeed happened to me.

IMO these exercises often conflate systemic racism with racism, and no, those two ideas are not at all overlaps on a venn diagram.
