When I saw the animation style, I worried it would be too cutesy-wutesy, but no, it strikes the fine balance between Marvel humor and Pixar humor. They seem to really be playing with the idea that Autobots are the superheroes of their species.
It looks bad. Like, really, really bad. Like it was intentionally written for pre-schoolers. It's disappointing, since a transformers prequel has so much excellent material to draw from. Give us a Megatron that's basically a mechanical Spartacus, the Megatron that's a civil rights activist and best friends with Orion Pax, the uncorruptible cop that still believes the system can be reformed from within. That's a story worth telling.
Way I look at it, this one is like the first act of a slasher movie where the slumber party girls are joking around, and playing charades, and doing prank calls. We know the slaughter is coming later.
At least the preview is honest. They make a grown man cry. Grown as in body, not the INCEL fanboi mind. But they are going to cry. In the mean time I am seeing Code White in the theaters. My ooting is going to be good, but that is because I do not watch transformers anymore.
