Baltimore got worse, as did TB IMO, the Yankees are treading water and counting on rebounds from expensive guys like Tex, CC, Beltran and (they pray) A-Rod

But Red Sox made massive changes and the Jays will get huge boost from martin and Donaldson

The fascinating thing for me, in the field, is that both the Jays and Red Sox are putting a lot of stock in two young everyday players. I'll be watching how Pompey/Travis do as compared to Betts/Bogart

I was being charitable about Tampa and New York. But for an injury, the Redsox would have been going with three very young everyday players. Vasquez came up in the final third of the season last year, and was so good he had the starting catcher spot secured before Spring Training even began. But instead he's going to miss the season after Tommy John surgery. The Redsox have another young catching prospect, Blake Swihart, who is now much more likely to spend substantial time in Boston instead of Pawtucket, but he's not quite there yet on the defensive side. His bat would place him at the premier level among hitting catchers, though, something that cannot be said of Vasquez.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how Swihart plays out, but you do have an issue for the first half for sure, and that's a critical position. If i was a Red Sox fan by two worries in the field would be the catcher and whether or not Hanley can handle LF in that park.

We'll see. I'm pretty confident in Ryan Hannigan, don't know much about the guy they just picked up from Washington, though. I think Ramirez will be fine in left -- remember, it's a very shallow field at Fenway, so that should help. I'm not at all sure what to expect from the starting rotation, though. They could be just fine, which might be all we need, given the bats. But I'm not confident that one or two of them won't falter, and badly at that.

I guess Hannigan is a fair replacement for Vazquez, they share the same strengths and weaknesses

Jim Bowden picked the Jays so I feel a bit better about my potential homerism...

Which is kind of an uncomfortable position for older Tigers fans. We spent years (after 1984 anyway) watching them sink down the standings into last place, and loving them anyway. We aren't really sure what to do with a team that is regularly considered a post-season contender...

I know just what you mean. Having spent many afternoons and evenings at Fenway during the dark times, I'm suspicious of the 20,000 extra people who now attend games with the 17,000 who always did. On the one hand, I love that it's a packed park for every game. But did everybody there suffer enough to get to it?

Nothing to complain about in the Redsox first game. 8 runs on 5 homers, Clay Buccholz struck out 9, walked 1, for 7 shutout innings. He looked like he belonged on the mound opening day, and the line-up produced as expected.

    Anyway...

The Boston Globe reported that local police responded to a call of a vehicle break-in. The owner of the vehicle said he had two tickets to a Red Sox game on his dash and someone busted his window and left two more Red Sox tickets.

Also, what's the difference between the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Strangler?

I believe I have a much better chance of laughing at you in October than the other way around, but perhaps you'd like a small wager? Best local beer shipped to the winner's location?

the 92-93 Jays had THE lineup.. I used to have world series baseball for the Sega Genesis and played a whole season as the Blue Jays in Veteran mode. I won 141 games. It took me 5 months to play.

Any solid color uniform that isn't white or gray is an abomination. :bailey:

So we've had a wild first 10 days in the AL East, with every team spending time in 2nd... except for the Redsox :D
