Currently at the top of the international news section on Der Spiegel's website is a commentary by one Stefan Kuzmany imagining the "tweets" Trump would be uhh.. emitting if he were watching somebody else in his first weeks as president. I'll translate the intro paragraph, then give his imagined tweets. The opening weeks of Donald Trump's presidency have given rise to widespread fear and consternation. In fact, all his initiatives to date have been failures. It's time to take a new look at this man. (...) Tweets "POTUS kills children. DISGRACEFUL!" "POTUS signed exec order he didn't know. Can this man even read? SO SAD!!!" "POTUS unable to produce legally sound travel ban, then whines about losing in court. SUCH A CRY-BABY!" (...) Kuzmany goes on to remind his readers that Trump is absolutely capable of great harm and that what he's actually trying to do is bombard the public and media with such a barrage of events that before you can think through the latest outrage there's a new one coming at you to make sure you constantly stay off balance. So everybody will just shrug wearily as Donald keeps his bandwagon a-rollin'. Kuzmany suggests it might not be a bad idea for the outside world to simply stop taking Donald seriously while he blasts his way through his ammo .... until it's all gone, with Donald appalled by the realization that governing is not a reality show and defeated by the institutions he scorns. Kuzmany goes so far as to suggest that Obama's publication of himself having such a great time in the Caribbean are specifically aimed at pissing Donald off. I sure hope he's right.
Meanwhile, on this side of the pond... What was less clear was where it would all go. If nothing else, the size and tone of the crowds fed Republicans’ worries and Democrats’ view that the GOP agenda, coupled with the president’s tone and missteps, have activated voters who may have sat out previous elections. Swarming crowds and hostile questions are the new normal at GOP town halls: link
This is why it was a bad idea to elect a business person president. In business leaders always shift blame but with president the buck stops with them.
Yeah, these time-zone differences. I'm always careful about what I look at before breakfast .... and before bedtime. What could be worse than sleeping on a head full of images of uhh.. whatever?
This is all true. There are a lot of protesters out who didn't bother to vote. Admitting that basic truth though sent left forge into a tizzy earlier. If it gets people to get off their asses to vote then that is great but I bet most of them won't even remember to register much less vote in two years.
