That's fairly standard regardless of the reason a student is suspended. Then while we only have his side of the story, his lawyer admits the school offered to let him back in on the condition he stop deadnaming his fellow students, and that he withdraw from two classes with trans students, and that he showed up despite refusing to meet those conditions. And it's a Catholic school. Do you seriously think he was suspended for simply stating views that are in line with Catholic teachings (also, was this in health class? Presumably not), or is it reasonable to assume he probably did a hell of a lot more his lawyer isn't admitting?

Like most language, acronyms have connotations. It makes people aware of what you believe, and to assess whether or not you're potentially harmful as a person. Words have meaning and value. Most of the people defending the game, and defending Rowling, have no idea they're a part of the "I'm not a racist, but" crowd. They're not bigots, they're not transphobic, they just have "concerns." They're worried about "the children," just like the people against integration in the 1960s, just like people who believed gay people were the cause of AIDS in the 1980s, it's a moral panic, not a rational one, but like so many "I'm not a racist but" people, they don't realize that's exactly what they are, and what they're doing. Were this the 1960s, the 1980s all over again, that is what they would be advocating.

In the grand scheme of things, considering the size of the fanbase and their devotion, the game is going to be hugely successful. The loud people who care on both sides are a tiny section of the people who will buy and play this. Despite what JK says, she deserves any payments for the use of her IP which will draw players in to play Harry Potter. If I had the love for HP that most of the fans do, I would be buying the game. Large numbers of HP fans I have seen have said HP made them more open to different people, and they like GLBT people. If @Bill Carson and @Demiurge think that this game's success will destroy the trans community, that is the foolish thing.
