Which is why no one expects exact 1 to 1 reflection of the general population. The fact that it is so far beyond not even remotely similar shows hiring managers cannot be trusted. And that’s why we need DEI.

This is, to a large degree, unfortunately true. My first-hand experience with DEI programs in both the government and private sector are that they mainly exist to make the politicians and corporate executives feel good about themselves. Most of these programs don't amount to a hill of beans when it comes to actual diversity and inclusion.

Companies that actually practice DEI don't need programs.

(And yes, I know I'm sort of agreeing with an Uncle Albert post. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day...)

If he hates corporations getting involved with social politics, he's really gonna love hating Chik Fil A. :techman:

yeah, our executive/senior management likes to reiterate the commitment during the monthly all staff meeting, but it's a notably homogenous and entrenched bunch.
Our mid levels and front liners are evolving to keep up with our service user community pretty well though.

They are free to invest whether I agree or not. Just as I am free to comment on it no matter how badly it twists up your frilly man panties.

No simple culprit you can fit on a bumper sticker or use to assert default victimhood on anyone's behalf.

No we fucking do not. The superficial image of representation has no value of its own.

"Oh wait" what, fuckface? How often do you imagine I eat there? Is this where your lying shitbag ass pretends he has never seen me criticize organized religion? Go fuck yourself.

Right. Cuz its a white man’s world and we all know those in power will do everything they can to stay in power - even if they have to only support those who look like them.

Value is at least somewhat subjective. The fact that so many companies are embracing DEI (or at least, pretending to embrace DEI) suggests that they perceive it to have value, even if you think it does not and even if it "objectively" does not.

The value they perceive is ESG money. No more, no less. They don't give a single fuck about "social justice. "

    This.

How much ‘value’ is in NOT taking a horrible hit to your reputation and having to take down, fix and relaunch your big facial recognition software because it couldn’t initially recognize black faces outside of perfect lighting?

How much would having some black folks on the engineering and testing teams have been worth?

Or to get it away from race (as DEI is actually more than just race although you wouldn’t know by listening to opponents) how many times has some company ran a big HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY ad campaign that they then had to pull and apologize for?

What’s the value of having at least one Vet somewhere in the creating/approving chain?
