This is like complaining about watching Picard and not knowing who most of the characters are because you only watched TOS. The Titans characters have all been around for decades. Conner Kent (Superboy) first appeared in 1993 - Starfire in 1980. Hell, Beast Boy appeared in 1965, so he's fucking older than I am!
You might want to put more effort into understanding what you are reading. I wasn’t complaining, I was asking if anyone had watched it and what the show is about. Asshole.
It's easy enough to sort out even jumping into the deep end of the pool. Robin leads the Titans. He turns into Nightwing later on. The goth girl is Raven. She's a witch, and has trauma. Black girl with red hair is Starfire. She's got flight, super strength, and energy blasts. Basically, DC's Captain Marvel. Her and Robin become a couple. Asian guy is Beast Boy. He's a shapeshifter, but can only do animals. Cyborg is supposed to be there, but they moved him over to Doom Patrol for some reason.
I’m on the episode where … Beast Boy takes Rachel to Doom Manor. Is this still with Niles Caulder as Chief or has Dr. Harrison taken over as Chief yet?
Wow. This new Niles and his conversation with Garfield. Sheds a whole new light on the conversation where he tells Dorothy “Don’t make me lock you away again”
As a reflection of the comics it's...taken some liberties as the Teen Titans were, originally, like all comics in the 80's sort of goofy at times but told some really iconic stories too. As a TV show it has some really good bits but it can be really uneven. As to the characters, yes, Dick Grayson/Nightwing is the guy you remember but there's some variation in the storytelling ***Starfire is an alien princess exile from the planet Tameran who's name is Koriand'r, her powers in the show are basically solar but I don't remember if that was established in the comics. ***Raven is the daughter of a demon named Trigon who would be a recurring villain for the Titans, she'sbasically a witch but not referred to as such anywhere, as far as I know ***Beast Boy is a character that originated in Doom Patrol who can shape-shift into any animal form (thanks to some shady shit done by mad scientist Niles Caulder) although the TV show only uses a very few forms early on, mostly a tiger. Those were the regulars. You also see "Wonder Girl" Donna Troy a lot from time to time (her name basically explains her, right?) and Superboy/Conor Kent who's a clone created by Lex Luthor using his own DNA and Superman's. Also some other characters over the course of the series come and go. Later on you get their major non-Trigon villain, Deathstroke/Slade Wilson whom I don't know if you know of or not but he's basically Batman if he was an assassin with a thing for blade weapons. Cyborg was a classic Titans member but apparently DC was reserving him for Justice league properties, also in the comics there was Kid Flash (already a character on the Flash series), Aqualad (self explanatory) and Speedy/Red Arrow/Arsenal among others who never show up here. Still later you get a take on Jason Todd/Robin/Red Hood and lately a Tim Drake version of Robin. Not sure what you know about these already. Jasoon was basically killed by the Joker and revived using the Lazarus pit which as a side effect tends to make you kinda psychotic and "Red Hood" is kind of a DC version of the Punisher. Drake is...just a Robin 3.0 The big problem for me with Titans, but not enough to drive me away, was that Bruce Wayne was horribly, ridiculously, insanely miscast. Edit to add - I forgot that Hawk and Dove are here early on to....which...they shouldn't be. They're not really identified with the Titans though apparently they were members in the comics at one point? But they are, here, just two people in weird costumes who fight. There's no element of the supposed fight/peace dichotomy they were supposed to have in the comics. Also, apparently Dick was banging her before she got together with Hank so there's a lot of unnecessary personal drama involving them too.
Most of these characters date back to an 80s version of the Titans that at one time was super popular. Sadly, the Titans TV show IMO pretty much butchers everything about them. The people behind it are so intent on focusing on Dick Grayson as a grim-and-gritty Batman wannabe, when Dick has never been portrayed that way. I encourage you to get spend your time watching basically anything else in the DC Universe.
I dunno, I feel like Dick's big thing early on was "Bruce is an asshole and I resent him" but he's grown out of that by season three at least. But the show does lean into a darker tone than the team ever had in print.
Before the HBO series, I’d never heard of Doom Patrol. But, I so love Crazy Jane I’ve had to go back to the beginning. I have the first Doom Patrol Comic and there’s a lot of history/explanation in it - most of which explains why I’d never heard of them. The individual members of Doom Patrol had originally been in 1950’s horror type superhero comics. And I don’t like horror. Anyway, at some point in the comics, after Niles dies, and after Janes comes to terms with her trauma and co-personalities, she takes over as the Chief. I think I read that it was mostly the Dr. Harrison persona that did that.
In most depictions of Dick Grayson, he is a lighthearted guy who (even when pai4ed with uberserious, near-psycho Bat) found his own style and personality. Titans' Dick is scarred by Batman and wants to be a mini-Batman. And given that the show not only as you pointed out badly miscast its Batman but miswrote him makes that characterization of Dick worse. I don't think that Dick grew out of his love-hate relationship with Batman through the three seasons I watched. I started S4 but didn't get more than one or two episodes in. Maybe I will watch ias a completist.
‘The Sandman: The Complete First Season’ Heads to 4K and Blu-ray in November It is, apparently, available for pre-order.
That article is full of shit. You can totally buy the comic. In fact, DC just did a re-release because of the Netlfix series and it's not out of stock. https://www.amazon.com/Bodies-New-Si-Spencer/dp/1779526970/
Bodies (the show) was quite interesting. Since it's based on a graphic novel so this isn't weird, but it's been a while since I've watched anything that felt so much like reading a book. There's not a standout acting performance (everyone was fine though) and early on it can feel a tad slow to develop but ultimately it's a very satisfying story. It doesn't leave hardly any room for further seasons but it's the sort of story that doesn't need and shouldn't get more episodes. The story is told.
1.They already established CW-verse was a corner of the multiverse. 2. "Smallville" already peacefully co-existed with "Superman Returns". Before that, "Lois & Clark" co-existed with Conroy-verse Superman. Before that, Christopher Reeve peacefully co-existed with "Superfriends".
Yeah, but this isn't an editorial thing, according to the story. It's a business thing. WB/DC suits do not want marketplace confusion that Movie Superman and CW Superman are not the same. Even though at this point probably anyone over the age of 5 who has any interest in superhero movies is familiar with the concept of parallel universes/timelines and multiverses.
A bogus lawsuit against Warner Brothers reveals Matt Reeves never intended to make the Ben Affleck Batman, and set out to make his "The Batman" from the get. https://comicbookmovie.com/batman/t...on-lack-of-gadgets-and-more-a210158#gs.75659e
Dropped. Watched the first episode tonight. Gotta say, I like it. Got the same weird factor of Doom Patrol (though not as over the top) and the supernatural element that feels very like it could be a Constantine property. Got lots of little quirky things like interrogating a cat and what not. Well acted, nice set-up for the season. Recommended.
Addendum: Five episodes in and I feel like I should say that (if this sort of thing affects your viewing choices plus or minus - it doesn't mine but I'm aware it's a thing) that this show is queer-coded AF.
