Nope, not a new & awesome Trek series. It's a new Fantasy type TV series and a direct continuation of the movie LEGION. The plot is a liiiiittle outlandish: God has disappeared and the angels led by archangel Gabriel immediately started a war against humanity. Good that archangel Michael is on their side... or is he. Then there's a slightly hapless young soldier who suddenly becomes the unwilling savior of mankind. I didn't know anything about this, just saw the title and d it since I don't have to watch any good series at the moment and everything new seems to be another crime series. Changed between 'hm, not bad' and 'WTF?!' pretty much every minute. Mind you, it's the rather good kind of WTF. While the series has a few rough edges and with a little background in scifi/fantasy you can see where things were ripped off it's not a bad effort. Las Vegas and Boulder as the centers for good and evil, where have we heard that before Of course nothing is what it seems. Standard since LOST. The stars of the show are the different types of angels. Yes, some have wings. Some are also quite disgusting. Some gamble. Some seem to be ninjas with X-Men uniforms. Michael schemes (Tom Wisdom gets the only applause for good acting while everybody else does a job by the numbers). There is also a nuclear reactor, always a plus. I'll give this one or two seasons before getting the can by SyFy. Depending on the writers DOMINION could be interesting. Could also be complete and utter dreck. Guess we'll see in the second episode where it's headed. I'll make sure to watch it.
I'm a sucker for almost anything mythological so I rather liked it. It's cheesy, goofy at times, and whoever told Anthony Head to do an American accent should be fed to an 8-ball (show reference). I'll keep with it till it ends, which will probably be soon, as the production values are pretty high for a SyFy show, and thus probably expensive.
The Hollywood Reporter pretty much destroyed this show. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/tv-review-dominion-712479
I thought it was pretty good. I don't go into these shows expecting to be wowed. I do like that right up front they answered two key points instead of bullshitting around and dragging it out for a whole season or more. I liked the special effects. Pretty decent for a TV show. I like that the angels aren't invincible. You don't want to fight one hand to hand but they can be killed. The only thing that strikes me off-key is that Vega shouldn't even exist since there is no way it would have water. But I can overlook that.
Wow, this was really good! All the bad reviews kept me off it so far, but I've finally seen the pilot and enjoyed it a lot. Aside from the Princess, I couldn't see any of the bad acting the critics are going on about, and boy do they ever have enough story to fill the hour and the world. I'll definitely be back.
Ok, so up to episode 7 now. Apart from one episode with remarkably but uniquely bad writing, I'm enjoying this very much. There's just so much going on, so much plot and such a rich world. And the reversal upon reversal upon established myth and mysticism creates scenes that are deliciously multi-layered. Can someone explain why this is getting such bad reviews?
Because the premise is infinitely better if you replace avenging angels with invading aliens and call the series a reboot of V, and no one wants another reboot of V.
We used to have a grocery chain called "Dominion" here in Canada. Ever since then, I can't take anything called "Dominion" seriously.
Yeah, couldn't take them seriously either when I used to watch DS9. Every time I would hear about the Dominion invading the Federation, I would always think of the grocery chain's slogan: "It's mainly because of the meat!" Why do more Canadians Shop at Dominion? More than any other store? Why, it's mainly because of the meat! Mainly because of the meat? Yes, mainly because of the meat!
Damn, that jingle was catchy. Tried to find it online but no luck. I did, however, come across this gem. A certain Starfleet Captain shilling for another Canadian grocery store. (Thread successfully derailed.)
I quit watching after 4-5 episodes. Gave it that long because I liked the tie-in to the original movie Legion, and because I thought it had some promise. But it became just another soap opera, and the main hot chick wasn't naked often enough to make up for that....
