I probably shoulda dropped the category, especially in light of 14th Doctor's post being ineligible and all.
I'm with O2C, these are lame. All the great stuff that's been laughed at, and repped this year, and that's it? Drop the category, or redo it. This is like Babe getting all the Oscars.
I woulda put in one of mine if I'd realized the field was going to be so shallow. (Not commenting on the quality of any of the posts there.) Best Post is just a category that, if you care about it, you'll just have to keep track of potential winners throughout the year. Be sure to put candidates in the WF Quotes thread in the Archive or whatever.
This actually brings up a good point about more than just "Best Post." When the nominations come around, it is hard to think back a whole year. Would there be any sense in having the "Forgies" sub-forum open all year, with a few of threads for "pre-nominations"? (You could maybe have "Best post," "Best thread," and "Other" for example.) Whenever you see something or someone that might possibly qualify for a nomination, you could stick it in there, with a link. Then, when nominations times comes around, people could check that out to see if they still think any of that deserved a nomination (in addition to nominations for stuff or people they thought of at the time). It might make the Forgies a lot more interesting next time around.
Agreed that this is a bad format for best post. Perhaps the quote thread would be the best place to mine for best post candidates?
Maybe, maybe not. But that still wouldn't solve the problem of "Best thread" and so many other categories. In reality, the Forgies are normally awarded just for very recent events, because memories are so short.
I actually think this is a great idea...but it would only work if people can control themselves and not post extraneous shit in the nomination threads. Plus, people could use rep to second or third the nominations instead of extra posts.
