https://www.washingtonpost.com/amph...fatally-shot-by-a-minneapolis-police-officer/ I bet this dead yoga teacher wishes the cops had ignored her 911 call as well. Y'know, since the decided to murder her with their body cams disabled. Fuck. The. Police.
Yeah, maybe the yoga teacher had insane karate powers, and her ki energy was strong enough to shut off their body cams. Also "I feared for my life!".
If accurate than it sounds as if the officer in the passenger seat had a negligent discharge. The officer in the drivers seat could have been just as easily killed. A terrible accident. Not a murder. As for the body cameras they had no reason to turn them on. They were sitting in their car talking to the lady. Not every call requires the camera to be on. If she was a suspect than yes the cameras should be on but if we are to take the article at its word she was talking to the police at the drivers side door as a person who made the call. Not a suspect. No reason to have the camera on. That doesn't mean the officer who fired shouldn't be in trouble civilly and criminally but it's not a murder. It's a terrible accident barring any other evidence coming out to show otherwise.
Why would the gun be up high enough to shoot through the door? A holstered weapon would be pointed down at the floor, even while seated.
Why do people's guns keep going off in the holster, or in their pants anyway? The safety switch locks the trigger, and you're always supposed to have that on like a parking brake on a car.
If its a revolver the only safety is having it half cocked isn't it? That means the hand or something catching the hammer and pulling it all the way back, and then the trigger being jerked would be enough to fire.
That's the main question. Why was the gun in a position to fire through the door? The officer in the passenger seat not only endangered the lady who was shot but he put his partner in danger as well. That bullet could have easily hit the officer driving instead.
Jesus Christ, they can make the safety on a BB gun more convenient than a real gun? What quack engineers do they have making these things? They must be flat-earthers.
When I worked at Walmart in sporting goods we sold lots of handguns. I can honestly say that out of hundreds of customers I don't remember a single handgun buyer who had a single question about the safety on the weapon.
That anecdote tells me absolutely nothing. A responsible gun owner that does his homework, and a homicidal maniac who'll never use the safety both will have no questions about the safety.
Need more details, but it sounds like a terrible accident. I presume this involved the officer's sideram. Most modern automatic pistols used for police work don't have external safeties (you don't want a safety mechanism to get in the way of firing the gun quickly), but they do have safeties that prevent the gun from firing when dropped, when the shooter's finger is not on the trigger, and/or (in a few cases) when the user is not gripping the gun. If the officer involved was using a gun so equipped, the only way it fired was by his/her inadvertently pulling the trigger.
It's virtually impossible for a firearm being carried in a proper holster to fire unintentionally, whether or not there is an active safety. Proper holsters should cover the trigger guard entirely. If the trigger guard is covered, there's no way for the trigger to get pulled.
Apparently officers have to ask for consent before they can turn on the cameras, which is pretty dumb considering at that point it's your word vs the cop and we all know how that goes.
Wouldn't you just love to see 14th Douche on the receiving end of a "SWAT" call? Fuck the police, indeed. I'd pay good money to see his fat ass get tased. Repeatedly.
