The ink is barely dry on Buck, I know, but this one was bubbling up before I was even finished with the other. Here's the prelude, with chapter one coming soon!

Nice. The Danish names are distracting for me, though. Too much trouble to mentally pronounce them as I read. Other than that lil' nitpick, however...

Chapter 2 is pretty long, but I'm getting close to the end. This chapter takes place in the past, outlining Einarr's early mortal life, as well as the circumstances and immediate aftermath of his first death. If you thought what happened to Connor MacLeod was interesting, wait until you hear Einarr's tale!! :spaceturk:

Gnrvld Fghmlawason eyed Engloip Qwertyuiosdottir lustfully, as her mother Yvvmmdir Kmslut was distracted by beating the scrawny American flyboy senseless with a large rock. Yvvmmdir wished that her husband, Iprkswin Flugnsdorfr (he who masturbates with rocks) was there to properly punish the foreigner for his transgressions, but he was out waxing Odin's spead, so the duty fell to her. Nearby, the family of Rngwold Mommasboy and Guschuenheit Sneezenkoffn laughed gleefully at the scrawny author's expense.

Good lord, man. You're going to be as prolific as Stephen King! :soma:

    Which reminds me...

Many years ago, on Saturday Night Live's fake news, Norm MacDonald (I think) did a live interview with Stephen King (actually John Lovitz) via satellite. "King" is furiously typing away the entire time and MacDonald is blathering on about how much work King produces.

Suddenly, King stops typing and says "Oh, no. I'm blocked. I've got writer's block. It's over." There's a quiet moment, and then King says "Okay, it passed," and starts typing furiously again.

    :calli:

We now return you to Einarr's Saga, already in progress.

Finished chapter 6 tonight- 5 and 6 both happen in the present, where the present-day storyline really takes off. Hopefully it will be up in a day or two; it's a long chapter and I'm starting a trip tomorrow.

Chapter 7 will be a flashback to the days of piracy on the Spanish main, and then the remaining few chapters will be the race to the conclusion.

Nautica- no more scary names, I promise. Maybe some pirate jargon. Arr!

    Good stuff--keep it going! :techman:

Couple critical points...first, it seems rather clumsy to have Salazar as Maria Delacruz's boss. I mean, maybe you'll explain it away later, but I fail to see the logic of openly attempting murder against one of his own employees when she'd ultimately be giving the information to him. He could easily bury it, then have her off'd later, discreetly.

Secondly, you should revisit the dialog when Maria is explaining the United World Government plot to Erik. The way it's structured lacks plausibility IMO, because she's not hesitant enough. She's just "I know this will sound crazy, but..." and then a multi-paragraph explanation. IMO there needs to be more of her disclaimers.

I know if I were attempting to explain something like that to someone else, I'd be pausing several times to say stuff like "I really can't believe it, but the paper trail doesn't lie" or "you're going to think I'm wacko...I did at first, too" or stuff like that. Such disclaimers serve to ground the far-out claims to a toe-hold of reality, by showing that the speaker finds the facts difficult to swallow as well as the reader.

    UPDATE

Chapter 7 is probably about half to two thirds done. Got home from a trip today and I'm on vacation now, so I should have a chance to get some more up before too long.

That's actually a good point. I may be able to twist it to my advantage here in Chapter 9, where Einarr has some choices to make. But when we get to the end, you'll see that there was a secondary explanation for this as well, having to do with Maria's dead boss.

Marso, check your math...792 A.D. until Present Day makes Einarr/Erik 1,215 years old. ;)

I caught that a while back and decided to blow it off. Call it 1997. Present Day enough? :P

Of course, that screws up the timeline for 'Berenson Boats', est. 1983... Wait- no it doesn't. I said the business was about 15 years old, right? (It's been a while since Chapter 1...)

This is why every writer needs a good editor. Alas, I am my own editor...
