There've been half a dozen times in the last couple days I've wanted to embed a Tweet, but I can't. Worse, the BBCode is irregular, so I can't just write a new one like I did with YouTube embedding back on vB; it needs a plugin I can't get. I don't have access to the XF resources forum as I didn't buy the software. Is there a way I can get a login (or add my XF account to the WF account somehow?), or John (or gul?), if you'd like to do it...
I added an extra BBCode media site. All you have to do is paste your tweet url and it should automatically format it, like so:
Huh, I was under the impression we needed a plugin. Maybe we shouldn't center it, but otherwise looks good. EDIT: I thought that particular Twitter API was deprecated? We should make sure it's not going to suddenly stop working.
The HTML I added is supposed to adapt to any general changes Twitter makes to their API. Unless it's something severe, we should be alright. I mean, look at what Facebook pulls and the BBcode for it still works.
Oh yeah, that's better. Test 1: Former Florida Governor and Presidential candidate Jeb Bush is expected to endorse Gov. Gary Johnson for President next week. Test 2: Test 3: Test 4:
Okay, it looks like I can't put the iframe inline with the text. Oh well. Still removing the alignment. I've just taken out the outer div, because without the align="center", it's pointless to have. (I know a couple things about HTML! Not enough, but that much!)
I don't see why it's only rendering the top 150 out of 203 points when quoted. Doesn't make sense....
Okay, quoted tweets suck less now, but they have to be followed by enough lines of text that the "Expand" would be necessary. I wonder if I can simulate this with enough line breaks, and if it doesn't suck too much to do so...
Oh, never mind, the expand bit is just taking a long time to show up for some reason. Seems to be working... well enough, let's say. Also, YouTube videos will now be a max of 250px tall in quotes rather than 150. Sorry/not sorry. EDIT: nope, that's not it...
Honestly, I think it works well for what it is. Xenforo doesn't actually support full featured Twitter embedding unless you go with a resource hungry add-on. I realize I'm probably one of the few, but I really don't like this software.
On the rare occasions I want to post a tweet, I just screenshot and crop. Seems to work, but not sure what it looks like to PC browsers.
Wait, didn't you pick XF to replace vB? I know I sure didn't. Anyway, what's the add-on look like in terms of resource consumption? Them not showing up when you first post is kinda annoying.
Nope, I didn't pick it. I would have picked something else. I don't know, but it's part of some kind of multi-purpose add-on. I'm also pretty certain it's made for Xenforo 1.4 or better.
Xenforo was a suggestion made by Chup. None of the original Horsemen knew much about the under the hood stuff, but we liked some of the features like easy inline posting of videos and social network integration. The latter feature we never ended up using, because too many people had a fit about that particular prospect. So whether it actually gives us anything on the front side that can't be achieved through other means, I don't think anybody is completely wed to Xenforo above all else.
