The best counter to Trumpists attacking Kamala's record in California: Trump donated to her campaign repeatedly
While amusing, that's the sort of inside-baseball trivia that no voter is actually going to care about. He donated to Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton too. Might be entertaining to toss at a few cultists, though.
I hope not, regarding AOC. She's demonstrated that she's more interested in appearances than actual policy. Any respect I had for her went out the window when she wore that stupid "Tax the rich" dress to the Met gala.
Oh no she sullied the sanctity of the rich person fashion party. If anything since being elected she has become much more pragmatic and measured. See examples like her earlier this week on this issue.
I detest the met gala. My issue was that she even attended. And tried to wear that dress to excuse it. I'll admit I haven't paid much attention to her since. But as she's my daughter's age (about), it's hard for me to take her seriously were she to move any higher up the ladder yet.
I don't know where she is on Gaza, and she's not going to break with him on that during the race in any case (nor, if she can help it, fully back his position) But otherwise, there's VERY little that she NEEDS to do different. I have a few relatively small scale objections - and on a large scale there's Gaza. But otherwise, there's nothing that screams change course.
2 years old but still true Buttigieg more in demand than Harris on midterm campaign trail as Democrats see signs of the future | CNN Politics Best communicator out there (except MAYBE AOC?) Can't leave that kind of talent on the bench. You don't have to disrupt the Senate or any governor's office - the perfect choice is right there.
I love a lot of those on the Dems' bench, but anyone else who gives it a go is a suicide bomber blowing up their own future, the Democratic part, and ultimately the nation. The only way this was EVER going to work is either Biden or Harris. And knowledgeable pols (as well as those who advise them) know fully well that any other nominee would have to reboot EVERYTHING from a cold start because of the laws and logistics about the existing campaign. All the people that I admire (Beshear, Whitmer, Shapiro, etc) are too smart to try that.
My guy, all respect but AOC has been a policy pushing MACHINE in DC. You don't see any of it in a GOP Congress and even Pelosi wasn't rolling out the carpet for straight progressivism, but she's ANYTHING but the Dem version of Boebert.
The alternative to this is something I've been trying to speak into existence for a week or two: The whole first night of the DNC should be a parade of Republican speakers (or others close enough to him to speak from their own experience) saying some form of "Whatever you do, don't vote for the Manic would-be king" Start with, say, Mary Trump, and work your way up to Kenzinger and then Cheney(with her dad in tow). Milly or some other general in between if you can, Cassidy Hutchinson, other Republicans who left office because of him, Joe Walsh. It would be so much of a departure from the usual stuff it would get a lot of press. (unrelated maybe - if I WAS going to say "pick a Republican VP - which I'm not - Kenzinger would be a rather obvious choice)
My feeling is no -- because there's absolutely no way those conversations wouldn't have leaked and been splashed all over the headlines.
I agree that Pete is the best communicator. Dude has been successful in the trenches on Fox News and this week savaged JD Vance on Bill Maher's show.
Now that Biden is out, will the media finally start paying attention to Trump's own version of dementia? I'm just kidding, of course they won't.
We were following West Wing season 2 pretty well but they’ve decided to end “Two Cathedrals” with the “You get Hoynes” line, even though there was more episode left. I mean the Latin rant against god in the national cathedral may be peak WW but it’s the press conference where the foreshadowing pays off. I guess Biden didn’t have it in him. And now we’re skipping to late season 6. “2162 Votes” is a good post-Sorkin episode but it’s still mediocre WW. Let’s hope Kamala can elevate this version.
Yes, republican VP. Do it. I don't like it, but it's the best option. Best option for winning, and the best option for softening all the hyperpartisan bullshit. Not just the VP, welcome the non-Trump republicans with open arms. It'll make the Democratic Party stronger. If we play our cards right, this could lead to the Democrats becoming the conservative party, and the rise of an actual liberal party. Conservatives vs. Fascists for our two parties isn't ideal, but it's already been that way for at least the past eight years. At least the fascists would stop winning so much.
Hard disagree. And you can watch all the media coverage of Biden go into the shitter actually before the debate - it was when he said he'd raise taxes on billionaires. The CEOs and owners of virtually every major media outlet have donated to Trump - even MSNBC. All of a sudden, everyone is playing up his age, in a coordinated attack - hell even NPR, who depends on donations from viewers like you - and billionaire charitable trusts. The Republicans wouldn't be a fraction of the problem they are if the trusts were broken up and the oligarchs had less concentrated wealth. That's what's captured virtually the entire system, including the supreme court. The fuckers are just too dumb to understand that if you put Putin in power, eventually he doesn't need you any more, and he comes after your shit, and if you disagree you end up in prison - or out a window.
As to Kamela, record haul today, $43 million. All 50 state democratic leaders are on board. Multiple significant endorsements. I think this is Biden setting her up for success, and hopefully his people will help her team run the show. I think it very likely she is the first female president, and after all of this starting over the misogyny of the GOP and their evangelical donors, that's the exact right outcome.
It costs a lot of money to spread all those lies. I think this is another big edge for Harris, and one of the big reasons why Clinton lost. They spent a decade attacking her, almost none of it was valid criticism, but you keep lying and lying and lying you start to move the needle. Harris has been a nice, quiet, under the radar VP, so they haven't spent the time poisoning the well on her. Which is really stupid honestly, there was always a chance Joe would bow out after one term, it was openly discussed in 2020.
I think it's probably too late for that as a atrategy. I don't think there are as many never Trump Republican voters left as there are Dem voters who would be turned off by a Republican VP. And having a Republican VP without at least the promise of support for her judicial nominees in the Senate likely means a hard stop to the undoing of Trump's damage to the judiciary.
It's over $50mm now, one of the sites biggest days ever. This should be a stern warning to anyone glibly thinking this might have been their moment (except Joe Manchin, the world champion in not reading the room)
Yeah, her record doesn't suggest that she'll be a huge departure on the ME. Still, some small adjustments could have large effects and she's not overly associated with the present policy. I'll begin with cautious optimism.
