Indeed, it is a litmus test of sorts, for whether the person can credibly engage in a debate. If they believe and repeat the lines about golfing and vacations, then you can pretty much write them off for the rest of discussion.
Yes, we all know that when you get lost in a rant to the point that it logically breaks down you try to change the subject. Let the record reflect that Dicky was wrong, that's twice in this thread.
I know that. But he's smart enough to know a typo when he sees it (was supposed to be what). He called me a liar, I want him to elaborate. He can't, so instead he tried for some misdirection.
Well, we've got a situation where George Clooney is agreeing with Mitt Romney, so next thing you know it'll be cats and dogs living together...
Self-censorship. No black helicopters involved. And IMO Sony was hoping to throw itself on the mercies of movie-goers and turn this into a "win."
If indeed it was NK, it certainly is censorship, not by our government but the threat of a foreign power. Incredible, and to my memory unprecedented.
It shows Sony is finally willing to consider inputs from foreign races, cultures, and ideologies instead of blindly pursuing profits at the expense of ethnic people, people who are willing to stand up against capitalists from capitalist exploiter nations. It's no surprise the perpetrator is a company from a former Axis member (allied with Nazi Germany) that had occupied and enslaved Korea as part of its imperialist ambitions. It is only the bravest members of Hollywood who are willing to reconsider their insulting and jejune mockery of a proud foreign people, and blessedly their repentance means they are no longer living under the threat of having their lives destroyed, then being kidnapped, tortured, put in a labor camp, beaten, executed, and fed to starving pigs.
Crowded theaters. Perfect locales for a terrorist attack. Not as if it hasn't happened before. Just ask Putin. Or their obvious ability to hack more than just a movie theater. Why do you suppose Sony doesn't just stream the thing online? They could turn that into the Best Publicity Evah, vanquish the Grinch, and God bless us, every one.
The word I would use is terrorism. Censorship is a terrible thing, but it is done by a central authority, not by a marketplace or external power. Let's not confuse what happened here. Sony was effectively targeted and attacked by state sponsored terrorists. Our response should revolve around that concept, but instead I see people condemning the victim or some nebulous concept of "outrage culture." Let's call it what it is, and gauge our response accordingly. TERRORISM
The word is NOT censorship. The word is EXTORTION. And the problem with giving into extortion, is that you're relying on the extortioner's goodwill to not continue to extort you.
Or you're using the enemy as an excuse for your own incompetence and crying "Poor little me!" Is Sony the only company to be targeted by foreign hackers, or just the only one too cheap and/or too stupid to take the initial activity seriously?
However you regard Sony, this should be a teachable moment for everyone else: taking data security lightly is done at your peril.
By that standard, the TSA will now be running security checks at movie theaters? Interesting society we're creating here.
Perhaps you're mislabeling something else? Like, discretion? When I think "self censorship", I think editing something you normally wouldn't out of worry of what some authority or offense group will do to you. Like, having almost a neural clone of the external censor living in your head.
