http://alzheimersawareness.net/peanut-butter-test-for-alzheimers-signs/ Basically they are finding in Alzheimer's patients that their left nostril will not be able to smell as well as their right. Normal older folks can smell things from 20cm away but the ones that are developing Alzheimer's start losing that 20 cm in the left nostril, but not the right. And they loose this sense of smell long before the dementia really sets in so they may be able to slow it's progression with drugs.
A *really* low-tech Alzheimer's test? Have a friend/relative drive you to some remote location. If you can find your way back, you don't have it.
Or maybe you just have a poor sense of direction. Speaking of driving reminds me of how the medical reporter at one of my old jobs described Alzheimer's: Misplacing your car keys doesn't mean you have Alzheimer's. When you have Alzheimer's, you don't know what keys are for.
Drivers around here don't know what turn signals are for......can I lock them up for their own good? Please?
