I think someone in the chain of command thought the MCU needed a unified history like the Jedi in Star Wars. It didn't need a movie. It could have been sprinkled across the Guardians and Captain Marvel movies just fine.
Brave New World's global box office is almost at $300-million after this weekend. I don't see how this thing doesn't turn a tidy profit, but it's likely below expectations. Volpone disagrees!
Jeez, how did Black Panther not make Volpone puke until his bunghole hurt? Oh, right, BP is in Africa "where he belongs".
Elon Musk has made me wonder if there's not some value in that worldview... South Africa's loss is, apparently, also ours.
I usually go see Marvel movies in the cinema, but I think I'm reaching the point of "oh, this again" - I'm going to drag myself out to see it as I like Mackie's take Cap, but otherwise I think I'd have waited 'til it came out on Disney+ Really hoping F4 revs things up again
Some pretty massive leaks regarding the Avengers Doomsday came out on Twitter today Made me pretty intrigued about what is to come

Groot should fall in love with Lady Gaga, then wake up as Vin Diesel, and Groot was all his fantasy, and then he's stabbed to death by Swamp Thing.
Well, the people that love Minions also love Baby Groot, so they could probably make a bunch of money off a Baby Groot project, especially with merchandising. An Adult Groot movie? No idea.
Yeah, they already did the Baby Groot thing on Disney+. An adult Groot? With him as the protagonist? I don't see it working with how James Gunn did the character. In the original Star-Lord comic where Groot was reintroduced, he could talk just fine. But he would emphasize things sometimes by saying "I am Groot." Like, "Hey Groot, how are we going to get past all these guards?" "I am Groot, human." And Groot dispatches the guards. This whole "He only says one line" thing is mostly a Gunn invention.
In other news, as of this weekend, Captain America: Brave New World is officially profitable. Volpone is overjoyed!
What world do you live in? The general consensus is that a film needs to make 2.5x its budget to be profitable. Even assuming the budget was actually $180M (and we'll come back to that later), that works out to...$450M. Given that it is tracking smack dab in between "Eternals" and "Quantumania" it doesn't look like it's going to get to $450M. Of course most of the articles out there say it only needs $425M to be profitable but that doesn't jibe with the benchmark everyone else ever uses. Even so, right now it's touch-and-go if it will even get to $425M. Which brings us back to that reported $180M budget. $180 million. For the tentpole summer 2024 blockbuster to kick off the next phase of the MCU. Starring Harrison Ford and with tons of CGI. They made that for the money they spent on "Shang Chi..." back in 2021 (which, if you adjust for inflation would be something like $212M in 2025 dollars). "Shang Chi." A throwaway movie about Dr. Strange's sidekick (and Dr. Strange isn't even a top-line Marvel character). Sure the budget was $180M. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! They put it on the shelf for a year did 2 rounds of rewrites and 2 rounds of reshoots and edited it God knows how many times. Tell me with a straight face this movie only cost $180M. It's all spin. The $99M opening weekend projection? Spin. That sounds impressive but when you look at past MCU movies, most of them will do that on opening weekend (except for "The Marvels".) So they picked a low number and then acted like it was a hit when it beat it. Then they floated the claim that it only cost $180M to make. Then they floated the claim that it only needs $425M to break even. They're furiously trying to spin this that it is only a disappointment and not a colossal failure. The truth of the matter is that it will be lucky to make $438M worldwide, which doesn't even cover a $180M budget and it's very likely the budget was more like $300M, which would take... a worldwide box office of around $750M--just to not lose money. But don't believe me. Check for yourself. Everything I've said is verifiable. And if that's too much, just Google a couple articles. There aren't many people that think this movie is going to succeed--and quite a few who think it won't even break even.
That's a lot of words to invest in trying to convincing us a film failed. I guess Black Captain America really chaps your ass. You and UA can rub Resinol on each other's bums over it.
I think it might be the most he's written here in years. Aside from "bragging" about his shitty little shacks.
Why bother? There's only one glaring reason why it even matters to you. If, if I thought you were actually interested in discussing the narrative merits of the film, I'd deign to engage with you.
Holy geriatric mutants, Batman! Still, I'm thrilled to see Rebecca Romijn replace Jennifer Lawrence and return to the role. I just hope it isn't for her to be killed off by God-Emperor Doom.
Whatever helps you sleep at night, skippy. Also, "costed" is used incorrectly here. But I know you're used to being wrong, so
