I'm not clear on why that's a bad thing. The FAQ regards a device used for hunting with a high speed projectile. What makes one propellant more or less worthy of regulation than another? Note, this isn't a question regarding whether hunting equipment should be regulated, but rather why the accelerant should be the issue. I think a much more important factor regards the speed of the projectile when it leaves the barrel.
Politicians are stupid? If they knew enough about guns to even know what muzzle velocity is, they wouldn't have lumped in hollow points with the armor-piercing ammo ban.
Well you didn't specify "law enforcement". I've seen hollow point rifle rounds pierce mild steel and .45 Hydra-Shok penetrate an engine block.
B/c that is not what the Code says. But since I'm too lazy to read the whole damn thing I just emailed the OAG. Mr. Johnson Your email inquiry to the Office of the Attorney General, Acting Attorney General John Hoffman, has been forwarded to me for a response regarding the legality of airsoft guns. Currently, under opinion of the Office of the Attorney General, airsoft guns do not meet the definition of N.J.S. 2C:39-1f, therefore they are not considered a firearm at this time. If you have any further questions, please call me directly at xxxxxxxxxxx Sincerely, A/Lt. J. Genova
Laws are, sadly to say, frequently if not usually poorly drafted. Getting all huffy and puffy about one specific example of an ambiguous law before checking out how prosecutors, administrative agencies, and courts have interpreted that law is a pointless endeavor. On the other hand, anyone who wants to complain that legislators are, generally speaking, idiots who don't bother trying to do the job of drafting a law correctly has a point, although it's not clear what should be done about the problem.
Fair, equal and more importantly consistent interpretation of the laws would be one thing we can do about the problem.
Sure it is. Actually, it's perfectly clear, but nobody's got the balls to do it. Stop letting them draft legislation.
I finally got a chance to stop at the hobby shop where my friend heard about the supposed airsoft ban, and asked them about it directly. Their answer was "Well, no, nothing firm, but based on the way things are going we're pretty sure such a thing is coming, so we're just going to stop carrying them."
