Last Saturday, there was a confrontation in a Madison mall that moved outside and some shots were fired (no one injured). One of the people involved is also a suspect in another nearby shooting (18-year-old shot multiple times, but apparently survived). Police said both shootings were likely gang-related. Tonight we get news of another shooting, this time closer to downtown. There's nothing definitive at this point, but the rumor mill is something like: a police officer shot a 19-year-old black male who was possibly acting crazy and trying to break into houses, and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital. But no official details so far. Supposedly there is also a group of ever-ready protesters who are normally around the capitol square that came to chant "Black lives matter!" even though I doubt they know much more about the situation than I do. Growing up in the DC area, we heard about a new shooting on the news just about every evening - almost always gang-related. I liked that when I moved out here, the worst thing I'd read about in the police blotter would be something like a kid got ahold of a phone and dialed 911 because that was the only number he knew. I hope this recent little rash of shootings is just a fluke.

Fuck. Here we go again! Sorry about sounding like a broken record but...no white cops unless partnered with a black cop, and the white cop is unarmed, England style. Can it hurt to try it? Obviously the way things are now causes too much controversey and discord.
