Trailer: Being released Sept 6 2023 Anyone going to check this out? Looks like it could be halfway decent
Yes! I watched the hour and a half long deep dive video when it was released, and I cannot wait to play this game. I signed up for Star Citizen about 5 years ago, and it's STILL in early Alpha, while Starfield looks like it will scratch much of the itch that Star Citizen promised. It's funny, because some people are like "it's just going to be Skyrim in space, but with updated graphics," and I'm like "yeah, that sounds fucking cool as hell!"
Yeah this game has serious "I'm going to ignore my children for days while I fuck around in space" vibes
Already preordered. Due to my shitty internet speed that Comcast is being a pain in the ass about upgrading it's going to take like a week for it to download, but, whatever.
Some details have been revealed: Here are the highlights: Dwellings can be acquired in all major cities, some by purchasing and others through quests Some items will be considered contraband and need to be hidden on your ship using special modules to pass inspection Faction quests are not mutually exclusive and can all be completed independently There are up to 20 named characters that can join your crew, follow you around, and carry your stuff Commit crimes and you can go to jail, pay a fine, or resist arrest The mechs are in ruins and not usable A fully nonlethal playthrough isn’t possible https://kotaku.com/starfield-open-world-scifi-rpg-mech-nonlethal-companion-1850744577
So, the same as the Elder Scrolls games since Oblivion, and the Fallout games since... never, technically. Makes sense, but this is going to get annoying at times. Remember in Morrowind how you had to search through all your potions to find the skooma, drop it so the shop keeper will sell you stuff, and then the shopkeep says "I'm not buying that moon sugar, get rid of it" so now you have to to it all over again? While annoying at times, I actually like the Bethesda games where there's conflict between factions and they can't be done all in one playthrough. Although, conflict between factions could have been done better than it has been. That's nice, but, can I fuck them? STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM! Probably for the best. In every playthrough I've done of Fallout 4, I either: a: Collected 30+ suits of power armor and never used any of them, or b: Collected 30+ suits of power armor and only used one. I've never done a strict pacifist playthrough of any Bethesda game, so, not really bothered. Also... After some annoyance, I have successfully added myself to my room mate's Xfinity account and upgraded my internet speed. Was 3Mbps, is now 400Mbps. I have no idea how he still had a 3Mbps plan. My best guess is the plan he had was replaced with Xfinity Prepay and they stopped upgrading it. So, it will only take an hour or two to download. Although, it looks like they're letting people preload it starting August 17, so later today. I would have had it on launch day anyway. At least now I don't have to make my internet barely usable for several days while it downloads.
Correction: If purchased on Xbox live or whatever it can be downloaded today. On Steam it can be downloaded on August 30th. So, unless someone is on slower internet than I was, it can be played on launch day. Apparently, there's a deluxe edition now that includes early access, so it can be played on September 1st. That wasn't an option when I preordered it. I could get the regular version refunded and get the special version if I wanted to. I might. Probably don't want to bother.
I'm going to let it download overnight on the 30th. I've just got the standard edition, which is more than enough for me, but because I pre-ordered, I did get the Old Mars skin pack, the deep mining cutter, and the deep mining helmet, which seems pretty cool to me. Some folks are like "it's just going to be Skyrim but in space," and I'm like "you don't have to convince me, I've already ordered it." I also got it through Fanatical, and paid $50 for it instead of $70!
The only things I care about in the premium edition are the DLC, and the early access. The DLC, I'll just buy it when it comes out, or can be preordered on its own. Early access... Once I start playing, I'm going to run into something frustrating, and will want to pull up an FAQ or tutorial or something, and it won't exist because the people who make those things started playing for the first time 30 minutes ago just like I did, and haven't had time to make content to help idiots like me. When I fire up the game on September 6th, the tutorial creators will have had five days to make Youtube videos and such. That, and, I just started Act III in Baldur's Gate III. I might actually finish up before the 6th, not sure if I'll be done by the 1st.
True, and waiting 5 more days doesn't bother me, either. I'm actually crossing my fingers that it will work for me. Since I'm on Linux, I'm counting on the good people at Valve to be ready with their proton update patch, which I do think they're getting ready now because Starfield's going to be a big release, and they want this to do well.
Really? How odd. I've installed the pre-loaded portion of the game. It lets you install the bulk of the game (in this case, 87 GB) so you don't have to spend hours downloading the rest on release.
Oh, I have the preload, it just didn't put an icon on the desktop. Probably because I told Steam not to put icons on my desktop. But now I want one because you have one and it's not fair!
How could they do this to you?! Not yet, but knowing the modders who love to take on Bethesda's games, it's only a matter of time.
I right-clicked the name in my Steam Library, then Manage>Add desktop shortcut, so now I have one. Now I want two and it won't let me have two!
I figured it out. I can have as many as I want. Right now I want four. Toot Toot is guarding them for me.
I have finished Baldur's Gate 3, and am now ready for Starfield. Well, I started another game as The Dark Urge, but that one can sit for a while. BG3 has nudity and softcore-ish romance scenes. In my playthrough I fucked a Githyanki, a cleric of Shar, an archdruid, a mind flayer, and an incubus. I could have sexed up the druid while he was wildshaped into a bear, but chose not to. That's right, in BG3, you can fuck a bear. I wonder how Starfield is going to top that?
wait until you see the orgy planet blagnap four. it will make sausage party look like a disney movie.
There better be at least one orgy planet. Or, at the very least, mods that allow me to create my own orgy planets.
For us peasants who didn't get the Premium Edition, we can start playing at 5pm Pacific time (8pm Eastern), so I will be playing in about three and a half hours.
