They've got, what, two episodes left of the entire series and the last four or so have all been filler eps. There had better not be another X-Files level let-down coming, gorram it, or else I'm shredding up and shipping all my SG1 action figures (well except the Carter ones) to Brad Wright .
Darkening: Yes, but it's just now finishing up on SciFi channel in the US. There isn't a huge massive finale for SG-1, but the movies are already coming anyway.
The finale is strangely toned down but not bad. It's not a big bang, it's not a whimper but it's a celebration of the characters and their relationships.
Season 10 is being released on DVD on July 24. I'll watch it then. I wouldn't worry too much about how the season ends. Two direct-to-DVD SG-1 movies are being filmed at this moment: The Ark of Truth and its sequel, Continuum. No release date yet but it looks like the end of this year.
I think having the Gou'ld basically eliminated by the Replicators and then having the Replicators eliminated in the Milky Way galaxy by the ancients superweapon was a huge mistake for SG:1 It wrapped things up too nicely. I would've preferred to see something like the humans, Jaffa, and Tokra slowly gaining the upper hand over the Gould and then polishing them off in the 10th season. Have everything revealed to Earths general population and seeing the turmoil and upheaval generated there.(imagine if after 9 years of denouncing the Goul'd as "false gods" that millions of humans on Earth suddenly decided that they were gods after all). But trying to suddenly introduce yet another "super enemy" in the 9th season of a series I see as a major mistake.
Considering the producers didn't know that the series was being cancelled until after the majority of the season was filmed (and all of it scripted) then I'm not expecting any major resolutions. Stargate - the Ark of Truth, a 2 hour direct to video movie is supposed to resolve the Ori storyline. Supposedly it's going to be released Fall of this year. And another 2 hour movie is scheduled after that. In the meanwhile, next season of Atlantis there are major changes planned, including at least 1 SG-1 character coming over full time, and a new series planned tentatively for the year after that set in the SG universe. So lot's of SG coming down the pike. Hopefully they can keep the standards up. But then, I enjoyed Season 10 so far more than 8 or 9. And I hope they do something with Col. Mitchell, Vala, and Gen. Landry, as I appreciate those characters.
