I was away during the latest fracas, but given Madrid was a bit rainy got to read some of the stuff that went on... Firstly, given the boards genesis, history and general population, how the hell did anyone think that pulling a Room 101 was ever going to go down better than a chilled glass of dog vomit? I can appreciate wanting to do something about gturner, however the problem he created was entirely restricted to the Red Room, so locking him into the Violet Room was never going to be much of a solution. Giving him a time out from the RR would've made more sense, especially as if he decided to try his schtick in more heavily moderated rooms then you've got your reason to drop the banhammer. So, my suggestion is when someone is trying an Enterpriser on, give them a timeout from the RR. Only has to be 24-48 hours, give the forum time to breath if any one user is intent on dominating it in lieu of having an actual life to lead. Admin has to vote on it, so it can't be used for anything petty or mod/admin abuse in order to troll. Sad thing is, roll back 8 years or so, he'd have been driven out by the membership trolling the utter fuck out of him across half the internet until he either reigned it in, or sodded off. We're not as self-moderating as we once were - we've gotten soft. Or just old and weary.
That last sentence....yeah, that's part of the problem. With freedom comes responsibility and all that jazz.
