Does anyone know anything about these guys? Never heard of them but they keep coming up on FB: http://www.ar500armor.com/urban-go-plate-carrier-w-armor-and-pouches-coyote.html#.U3evRvldVhw
If they had lightweight and non-cumbersome armor like this when I was in Iraq 2003... it wouldn't have mattered, because our unit would have never gotten it anyway. We were lucky to get bullets.
So, what's the deal here, people are expected to lounge around their home with the armor or is it expected that they'll have time to put it on before the shit goes down? "Honey, there's someone at the door.” "Just a sec, let me get my urban body armor on!" Poodle would love this.
Actually for civilians there is a very valid reason for plates and a carrier. It's training. Some courses in home defense take place in a mock up of a house and use live ammo. Any school teaching these courses is going to require a student to have body armor and a helmet. As for these guys, be very wary. That seems like a really low price. I'd demand proof of certification that their plates meet level III. Caveat Emptor and all that jazz.
Yeah those are REALLY cheap. It's at or even slightly below 'fell off a truck' prices when I was in. Which is why I am tempted to buy them. Has anyone here bought plates on the civilian market?
let me know, that price is low enough I can test the plates out against some 400gr FP Hawk rounds from my Beowulf.
Head over to the tactical gear sub forum on m4carbine.net. Ooodles of information out there. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true.....
