I wonder how their reciprocity agreements will work? How long until Illinois joins America again?

    Regardless, this is GREAT News.

Maybe it's a reading comprehension thing, but "no way for citizens to carry concealed weapons" is confusing to me.

Taking geography classes from Obama? Currently, Illinois is part of "America", not matter how you slice it - US, North America, The New World ...

    Defend against what?

Most of the threats in life you face can't be solved by shooting things, overwhelmingly in fact......

Why are Americans obsessed with 'guns'?

You could spend you energies so much more efficiently....

That's true. You can just beat armed robbers to death with a can of tuna, but most of us aren't that bad-ass.

But this not the Red Room, so I won't mention one threat we took care of pretty well back in 1775.

It wouldn't require any energy if certain ignorant elements of our society would quit trying subvert the rights of other Americans.

The "why are you guys so obsessed with guns" crap gets really old in light of the fact that the attempts to restrict or remove our rights are constantly being advanced by gun rights opponents. Stop that from happening and Gunforge will suddenly have less to discuss.

Koreans are fascinated by American gun culture. It’s one of the top five frequent questions I get. I tell them we prefer to shoot the poor and desperate rather than providing social welfare.

Then the Koreans move to America, open up a store in da hood, get robbed at gunpoint every other week, and suddenly understand the whole gun thing.

It is indeed a messed up deal. Why should a free people with the right to bear arms, have to conceal a weapon. This is why I am against all the concealed carry bullshit. In the end those who will have weapons are those who were selected by the government. Poeple have no problem with this breach of our rights as long they are included in the selection.
The fact remains that an American should not have to apply for a GOD DAMNED thing to be armed. Nor should it be of any concern of the government.

Oh, and thank God they elected a Republican after that shitheel Democrat they had for the last couple terms that kept vetoing this. They almost overrode the veto the last time they tried, but then some weasel switched their vote at the last minute.

Good news, but I still have heebie jeebies about the thought of a card (or some bits) on file somewhere that says I have a gun.

I don't like carrying enough that I'd carry every day and if I think I really need a gun I'll stick one in my waistband, permit be damned.

Yes, I realize that leaves a pretty big gap for the times I think I don't need one and life intervenes, but  .

Most of the threats in life you face can't be solved with a fire extinguisher, either.

Most of the threats in life you face can't be solved with the Heimlich maneuver, either.

Most of the threats in life you face can't be solved with a spare tyre, either.

    etc.

In fact, I can't think of one single thing that, all by itself, solves a significant percentage of the threats you face in life.

    So what's your point?

As soon as you fill out that form to buy a gun there is a file somewhere that says you own a gun. You really think they don't have a database somewhere in the NSA of who owns guns?

(NSA would be the most logical place since it seems to be the agency that collects the most data on us)

It's why some people only buy used guns from other people (and why a lot of politicans are hell bent on closing that loophole and forcing all transactions to go through a FFL dealer).

I'm not going to even bother.....

My point is the amount of thought, energy, money, column inches and spin placed on 'guns' is disproportionately higher than those spent on fire extinguishers, the heimlich maneuver or spare tyres.
Americans are obsessed with guns, those for them and against them,... its crazy

    We aren't obsessed with guns.

I've used a flame thrower before. A little hard to CCW but it can be done.

Which is an entirely different point from "they won't solve most of the threats you face in life." Having a gun, in a country where most of the criminals have guns, is a valid option and, apparently, even you aren't saying otherwise (according to this post). The fact that there are a lot of problems it won't solve is irrelevent.

So just tell the gun owners that, in your opinion as someone who has never lived in a country where facing armed aggression is a real possibility, you think they are too obsessed with defending their Constitutionally guaranteed right to own one and train themselves to use it properly. Don't insinuate that there is no use for it, simply because it won't solve all of life's problems all by itself.

Dan this is one of the reasons why carrying a gun is important to most of us.

Attacked and robbed by a gang of youth.

Maybe, and I do stress the maybe, a gun might have prevented what happened to that man.

Right now there is a wave of "flash mobs" going about attacking people and robbing stores. Happening in states where it is hard if not impossible to get and carry a gun. The bad guys understand that. The bad guys like disarmed people. Makes it easier to rob and maim.
