It looks like there are crossbows out there with this kind of "backwards" design. Here's the Horton Havoc... Edit: which seems to be EXACTLY what she's carrying.
Hmmm.....looking at it I can see how it works, but it's almost like adding another link in the leverage chain. I don't see how it's an improvement over a normal compound crossbow.

Not to sound too Red Room - but if I knew there was a high probabilty that someone was going to break into my home with bad intentions and I had to eliminate the threat - I would use this. The paramedics and police are so tired of gunshot deaths - something like this would really give them some water cooler conversation material.
