My god, if you know what is going on, if you have several other victims who can confirm all this, why on God's green Earth do you stay inactive?
Why do you blame someone who is blameless?
Why do you paint a picture of the world were this is commonplace, when it is not?
Why do you chose to not inform the authorities and put an end to this?

If this happens again, you are to blame, too. Because you knew. Because you did nothing.

Yeah, sure. I'm a misogynist because I would rather see the rapist behind bars than the mother of the victim have a public cry in The Guardian instead of reporting all this to the Police?

Go fuck yourself, you smug moron.

First of all you found a letter posted to the Guardian by anonymous so you can continue your tirade not about rape but instead about the ambiguity of consent.

Secondly, you don't seem to understand why a victim or their parents might be reluctant to go to the police.

Thirdly, of course everyone is anti rape. You however also manage to find a way to be angry at the victims. Speaking of which what would a disgustingly misogynist post be without a bit of victim blaming thrown in at the end?

Anyway, at least it doesn't bother you anymore to be or be called a misogynist. After all the word has basically lost all its meaning.

:wtf: Dafaq are you talking about? There isn't anything about the "ambiguity of consent" in his post. Are you high or something?

Yeah, due to overuse and abuse from people like you. :bailey:

I wonder why Rehteah Parsons didn't do that either? Or Amanda Todd? Why didn't they just go to the authorities?

Go fuck yourself, dipshit. Or better yet, read the article again, because the answers are right there. Big words are difficult for you evidently, so I'll give you the cliff notes version: they didn't report because of slut shaming assholes like yourself. :borg:

It seems little has changed since the episode of All in the Family aired where Gloria gets attacked on her way home from work and her father and husband convince her not to report it to save face.

Or the storyline from one of the soaps I used to follow that aired ten years later where the victim has to get her ex to testify that she was a Virgin to get the rapist locked away.

Are you 12 years old? Really this sounds like something a kid would say. Only a teenager in a fit of angst would get all caught up in that letter. Don't you have parents or someone else to talk to?

Indeed. Used by idiots like you, that word has no meaning anymore.

And, victim-blaming? You can't read, can you? I blamed the mother (not the victim) for her inaction and not the daughter (the victim).
And why would she be reluctant to report this to the police? Especially with all the other victims she knows about. It would not help these girls, but it might help to prevent other girls from being violated.

Less than 1% of women in the US are victims of rape. Far too much but hardly commonplace.

You don't get angry at people who are in a perfect position to put a stop to something this awful, to prevent others from being victimized but remain inactive?

Yeah, I too want some evidence on that.

But even so, the original point does stand. For the mother in this case not to go to both the police and this other mother is irresponsible to an extreme.

That number refers to 18-24 year olds outside of university, not 'women in the US'.

On top of that it is taking one year's worth of rapes and applying it across the entire pop.

2% of women are raped each year is not the same as 2% of women have been raped.

Hello, welcome to the human race. Lots of times really bad shit happens that you are powerless to stop. If you will plea stop your whining some of this is called growing pains. Where as it is horrible and wrong college date rape is something we can only do our best to minimize. We can do better and I think we should, but you are never going to stop this sort of thing from happening at that time.

I'm not one to ask for links. I prefer to get YOUR opinion, not some link to someone else's opinion. But ..., where are you getting this information? or, is this just, like, your opinion, man?

That is true; they are the group with the highest risk of being raped, statistically. On page three of the PDF you can see a graph that shows the whole age-range.

That is also true. Some get victimized repeatedly and far too many new case are added to the sum total each new year.
While the numbers are disturbingly high, the percentage of women affected is low enough that the vast majority of all women will never have to experience such a violation.

By now you should have seen the link.

My opinion in this particular case here is clear. I want to see the guy that is described in this open letter behind bars, and fast. Unfortunately the mother decided a good cry in The Guardian is a better thing to do than to involve the police.

I haven't read the letter, but is there anything precluding the police from being involved? Is there a false dichotomy being presented?

And what, prey tell, will get done at this point? Any evidence is long gone and crimes like this rarely if ever have witnesses. You have enough women accusing Cosby of rape to fill an entire football team and noting would have happened even if they did report before the stature of limitations was up.

Well, then what was the point of that letter?

As harsh and unfair as it is to the victims, they are also the evidence of the crime. I can't imagine how degrading it must feel to present oneself as victim and evidence to the authorities, but that is what they should have done if they wanted to put and end to that guy's crimes.

I'm not talking about this particular case. I'm talking about the statement that less than 1% of women in the US are victims of rape. I think that figure is based only on reported cases. Many, many rapes go unreported.
