Those benefits sound very similar to what our agencies have in CA. Although one of my friends learned of the penalties tax wise he had to deal with for his CA state taxes.

He sent in a big check for the lack of withholding his agency did for state taxes. He wrote on the memo section of the check 2008 tax filing.

Well the genius's in the California State Tax Franchise Board followed up with another bill that included penalties and interest. He called them and said hey the check has cleared why are you charging me interest and penalties now. The woman on the other end said that since it said 2008 on the check his taxes were covered for next year but he still owed for this year.

My reason was none of the above.

I joined because I was a single mother on welfare and decided to do something to earn the money the government was already giving me.

So, what label would you put on that?

I'm impressed, I'd much rather see people take a proactive approach to their financial situation by enlisting if that will help them get out of the financial dependence on the government.

Mercenaries? Not so much. Joining the military in exchange for an college education doesn't exactly scream "Soldier of Fortune Training."

Pffft. You don't need to enlist to be a citizen, all you gotta do is have a child born on US soil.

I suspect the military entrance requirements may be a tad more discerning than those found in a soup kitchen.

She is only retarded if she believed the recruiter when he said that she would be stationed in Hawaii. ;)
