Yeah, it's just a pain to carry pencils around. Though maybe if I could find a good mechanical one...

    Hmmmm. The art store beckons...

At last I'm rocking a tablet again...got a new computer but my Chinese knock-off tablet wouldn't work with Windows 8...so, new Wacom Intuos5 arrived from Amazon today!

Just a quickie to try it out. Done in Paint.net, a freeware alternative to Photoshop. Eh, think I'll stick to Photoshop.

Tell you what, he'll keep one handy in the trunk with the rest of his goodies, but I haven't settled on a trademark weapon yet.

I used an ax for that "No more Mr. Nice Guy" artwork sometime back and I liked it. Shady's "grim reaper" appearance almost demands an edged weapon, though I thought a scythe would be going too far.

Besides, you don't necessarily have to chop bitches up with the ax; you can whack 'em with the handle.

When you decide which formal weapon he has, I'll draw him with that. :bailey:

I have to wait for something to "feel", right.

This thing subliminally guides me like a Ouija board.
Going all the way back to seeing that green Halloween mask at the store, and getting a flash of the JS character right there (yes, if this is familiar, this is written right into the origin story), to navel gazing on the appropriate sidekick/partner, and Chokecherry slotting in like a puzzle piece.

I can't force it, it'll happen sooner or later.

More playing around with the tablet. Another quickie, just working on ideas for my "black Superman" concept...

All the old stuff got deleted. :sob:

Time to add some new stuff!

Here's my take on Starfire from my favorite comic, the Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans (waaaaaaaaay back in the early 80s)...

This is the beginning of a new project. Drew this up at dinner tonight: it's Ms. Electrode from the Legion of Liberty zapping the crap out of Jade Shade. I drew it pretty well: decent perspective, etc. But it's lacking pizazz, emotion. I'm going to try refining it and, eventually, color it in and make a piece of finished art out of it.

1st refinements...changing the pose. The first one is a slight change, making Ms. E's pose more dynamic. After I did that, I did the 2nd, which makes Ms. E seem much more powerful and imposing. I think I like the 2nd better.

Went with the Ms. E dominant pose and sharpened some things up. If you notice that Ms. E's body got sexier, it's because it's now Monica Sweetheart's. Slapped some color on just to get a feel. Liking it, though I'm not 100% happy with Shady's pose.

This was a REAL quickie...about an hour start to finish...experimenting with some new coloring techniques.

It spans Diacanu's universes, but what the heck? It's Chokecherry (Mark 2...now with fingerless gloves!) punching out Deathgrasp. (For a quick sketch, I think I came pretty close to making Deathgrasp look like [young] Christopher Walken, who I modeled the character on.)

Last piece of art on the old board. The end of an era.

I'm actually going to do character crossovers down the line, but I've wanted to build up the world of Jade Shade to stand on its own first.

Huh. This one turned out better than I expected, considering I completely missed the target.

I intended this to be a caricature (and, indeed, some of the features are exaggerated) but it came out looking like a portrait. Ah, well. Less than one hour start to finish.

I haven't exactly been hyper-active in this thread lately.

I am doing a lot more drawing with pen on paper, though, and my skills at portraying anatomy and faces are much improved. I think I will soon be able to take ANY face and draw it recognizably in comic book style in any orientation and with whatever emotion I want to convey.

Another quickie. A portrait of Deathgrasp (who, in my mind, looks like a younger, blonder Christopher Walken--think Zorin from "A View to a Kill").

For this one, I tried to draw the likeness from memory and to "construct" it rather than simply imitate a photo.

Did this a while back as part of a project I may get back to...it's the Funster (a riff on the Joker) from D's Jade Shade series...

A little doodling at dinner tonight. Concept sketch for Chokecherry facial art and Jade's alter ego, Dusty.
