Paladin's Art Thread

Always liked Garcia-Lopez's clean style and excellent technical skills. Sometimes he looks a tad cartoony tho.

Depends highly on who's inking him.

My favorite combination was always Garcia-Lopez on pencils and Dick Giordano on inks. That combination DEFINED comic book art for me when I was a kid.




I've since grown to appreciate quite a few other styles.

Never cared for Jim Aparo when I was a kid (at least until Batman and the Outsiders); now I like him quite a lot.

Oh yeah, Giordano's inks on Garcia-Lopez pencils was magic. I want to say Terry Austin did some work with Garcia-Lopez but I don't recall offhand what it might have been.

I went googling to find some more artwork and I came across this which I think is unintentionally hilarious.

Warning: inadvertently raunchy humor within....

A quick and dirty lighting experiment. I'm trying to convey dark office, lit by computer screen.

A lighting experiment with Batman (my costume design). Meh.

That segmented suit is how Talia stabbed him.
Lucius telegraphed it a whole movie away.

Coming up with the right look for Batman is tough.

The realist in me says that a crimefighter in spandex is going to last 2.3 seconds in Gotham City.

The purist in me has a hard time accepting a superhero wearing full body armor.

I compromised: spandex suit with strategically placed bits of armor.

Well, he's gotta have elbow and knee pads at the very least. A cup too of course.

Shade vs. Funster...sketched at dinner, scanned in and then a very quick-n-dirty coloring job in Photoshop. I like it, though I messed up Funster's hair: not Larry Fine enough (sue me, I was working from memory).

Here's my second take on the same idea from today...


I think there are some obvious improvements in posing, anatomy, perspective, etc. I might color this one later...I'm really happy with it.
