I've deliberately left Dusty's face blank for the reader.
I dunno if I want to properly unmask him or not.

    Awesome.
    Love the colors.
Zippers on the boots are a nice detail.

I'm warming up to the look.

I'm still saving a descriptive unmasking for a special scene in the middle of the book though.

This one turned out better than it should have, though I'm still not altogether happy with it.

Experimenting with different coloring/inking techniques. I *really* suck as an inker...

Wanted to do something quick tonight, just to practice posing and displaying emotion...

This one I call "Occupational Hazards of Being a Superhero's Girlfriend"

Okay, the finished artwork. I'm pretty happy with it, though, naturally, I see a whole bunch of things wrong with it.

    Some stuff from my sketchbook.

Superhero action pose. A lot wrong, but quite a bit right, too...
    1.jpg

    Some random faces...
    2.jpg

    Chokecherry faces...
    3.jpg

More faces. Interesting bit: the woman's face in the center of the top row was drawn from a photo and it's a so-so likeness. I drew the same woman below and to the left--using my drawing and NOT the photo as a guide--and it is an absolute DEAD-ON reproduction of the original photo. Not sure how that works...
    4.jpg

    Chokecherry's Friday night out...
    5.jpg

Some famous faces. I suppose a couple of these are passable...
    6.jpg

Superhero transformation. I kinda like this and might do more with it once I finalize the costume.
    7.jpg

Some interesting faces. These came out well, considering I was drawing them from the screen of my phone.

Trying my hand at developing realistic settings. This one is real quick and dirty, but I think it has the feel of a "real" place. I took a reference photo of a New Orleans bar, tweaked a few details, and sketched it out at lunch. Came home, scanned it, colored it and--voila!--Tommy's Tavern, where my main characters go for a drink.

    Latest dabblings...

The Solution in an action pose...
    SolutionAction.jpg

And I painted Gus and Tommy using a technique I just watched a video about. I don't have the hang of it yet, but I like it! This image is absolutely infused with RED--the dominant color I wanted to set the mood--and at first the colors seemed all wrong...but as I painted more and more, it really started to take on a look I like...

Wonder Woman (copied and tweaked from a drawing by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez)...

    WW.jpg

Garcia-Lopez was my favorite comic artist when I was a kid. He made DC's superheroes look so...real. Some examples of his work:

He still does art for DC, but he's kinda changed to a more exaggerated style that I don't like as much.
