To my knowledge we don't have any gays on WF, aside from Volpone.....so I've noticed that when we make homophobic comments or insults nobody cares. We even have homophobic smilies. But if, for example, Tasvir shouts nigger in big letters he gets casigated by at least a section of the board. I was just over at Stormfront - which I had never seen before, having seen reference to it in a wikipedia article. There was some really twisted shit on there and I was shocked. I silently patted myself on the back for not being like that and yet on here I will readily throw around homophobic comments. Worst thing is that IRL I actually have some gay friends (albeit women). Do we practice double standards here because the target group doesn't post here (and nobody care about Volpone). What say you poo stabbers?
We don't castigate Tasvir for using the word 'nigger.' We castigate Tasvir for generally contributing little or nothing of substance or interest in any given post of his, and usually his complete fluff includes some variation of 'nigger.' Difference.
Actually we've had some openly gay posters. I know one is younger and I'm not sure which handle is his handle. And there used to be at least one before me, but that would occasionally post after I came on. I know there is another as well that always has the naked dudes in his avatar I saw him post in the last few weeks, but he may be the 2nd one I was thinking of. Also don't discount our bi people. We have a few of them. And one tranny.
I throw out the gay 'epithets' at will but, backwards as it sounds, I don't really have anything against gays except when they get all indignant and militant as a group. I'm just old school that way. Like most people, I've been 'mentally conditioned' not to throw around the 'N' word the same way.
It's a schoolyard taunt mastered by every eight-year-old boy. He doesn't know what it means; he just knows it has a certain effect. What this implies about WFers who use it in lieu of something more original - much less the ability to say "I disagree with you" without going rabid - is open to interpretation.
And here, too. Might as well come out of the closet, Cupcake, 'cause the only one who doesn't see what a flamin' fagnit you are is you.
Funny thing about stereotypes -- they don't just materialize spontaneously out of hundreds of millions of imaginations.
Beside the point -- the stereotype is accurate for a significant enough percentage of a larger group that it formed through observation of that larger group and has a better than average chance of being true for any given observed member of the group. Does it mean every member of the larger group will embody the stereotype? Not at all. Does it mean the stereotype is inaccurate? Again, not at all.
So what you're saying is that, like "nigger," it serves as a convenient buzzword for the Endangered White Male to separate himself from "those people."
Who stated it was inaccurate? Stereotyping is a faulty concept. Each individual is unique. A commonality is one think, but to treat the minority like the majority "just because" cannot be correct.
Gender roles and sexuality are discrete variables, my friend. And considering your history as Visionrazor, you're really not one to talk.
Nope. What Skin is saying is exactly -- and exclusively -- what Skin said. Anything you feel like adding to it is all you.
History as a what, now? Anyway, you're the one who claimed to come off as a queer in real life. Not quite the same as scrambling brains on a message board for a laugh.
See how nice Skin is? Opened that door right up for you, so you wouldn't go shuffling into it and then staring around with those cloudy eyes of yours, rubbing your joints all swole up with the rheumatizz.
I assume we no longer count Soma but... Lethsoda Emminance And maybe - not sure - classichumus, though maybe he's gone? I'm certain I'm forgetting someone.
Emminence is a poo pusher? I never knew that. Hell, I didn't even know Leth was gay. The only one I remember "coming out" was that guy who liked snakes (ooh-er!).
Actually, it can and often is. It's simply an application of pattern recognition. If v=(1+2+3), then when we spot 1+2+3 it naturally follows that (v). That's how stereotypes work. It's not illogical. It's not incorrect. It's simply that folks who fall into stereotypes don't like being read so quickly or so easily. Tough shit. There's always the option of not living the stereotype.
I refer to myself as "mostly gay." I believe the person is more important than the genitalia, but I must admit I am far more sexually attracted to women. FWIW I personally don't find it socially acceptable to use either of those words, especially not in a derogatory fashion. Not that I think that means people shouldn't be able to use them.
