My first game console ever. It was very cheap so I made an impulse buy. Never been much of a gamer except for week long binges on ELDER SCROLLS games and the odd arcade racing game after a hard day. My PCs have always been more than good enough for those.

Now, any tips on good games? I already bought and played JOURNEY. It's a work of art. Also got DRIVER: SF which is fun. Got all AC games as a bundle. The GTA games are great but unfortunately I don't have the time.

Please don't recommend shooters. I also don't like jump'n'run games. Anything else I like to hear.

GTA V has a lot of content, but it doesn't require a massive time investment. Each mission can be relatively short and I took over a year to finish it mostly just playing 30 minutes here and there.

You owe it to yourself to play The Last of Us, one of the most engrossing games I've ever played.

Anything with the Naughty Dog label on it is a good choice.

Anything Naughty Dog has done recently is basically a shooter, though. They're great, quality games with fantastic storytelling, but they're still shooters.

Tokyo Jungle isn't quite run and jump (I guess I don't really know what you mean by that?,) though you might want to watch a youtube video of it first. It's super bizarre and I had a great time with it.

Try Luftrausers. It's an arcade style airplane game that controls well and is addictive as hell.

Infamous? People seem to like those.

Sportsfriends, Castle Crashers, and Battleblock Theater if you like couch co-op or competitive games.

got LA NOIRE today. tried it for an hour, good so far! who says video game characters can't have a personality.

LAST OF US is on my list. just waiting until it hits the used marked in force. after pirating pretty much everything for 25 years i'm not ready to spend 60 euro on a game. 15 are more than enough ;)

The Last of Us. Best game of 2013. As a PC gamer, I had lots of trouble getting into it. I love the PS3 for games like FIFA and Gran Turismo 6. Racing games and sport games are great on consoles. However, I simply HATE steering my game char using the analogue sticks in third person games or RPGs like Skyrim... I never play shooters on the ps3. Being used to the mouse and WASD, using a controller is a huge backstep. But "The Last of Us" is such a great game, full of atmosphere and detail... I bought the new Deus Ex for my PS3 two years ago and gave up on it after three hours or so because the controls got on my nerves. I was just was not patient enough to get used to steering my char with the analogue sticks, because the game wasn't THAT great. However, TLOU forced me to make peace with my ps3 controller. It took a few hours, and lots of frustration and swearing was involved, but in the end, it was worth it.

Get this game! :) It's a piece of art.

...I will upgrade to the PS4 as soon as FIFA 15 is released, btw. The FIFA series has always been mediocre, lots of bugs, lots of problems with multiplayer, carreer mode is neglected because EA can't earn additional money with it, etc... But EA bought all the licences and is in bed with the FIFA mafia.

EA sucks... But I love soccer! PES by Konami sucks even more.

Yea, well, why spend 500 euro + lots more on games for a console I'll probably use for half an hour a month and which has almost no games yet that interest me? I'm not a 13 year old who has to impress the schoolyard*. I'm over the urge to have the newest and bestest and shiniestest at all cost**. I got the PS3 for 80 euro and I now own all of 8 used but interesting games which cost me 30 all in all.

    * + ** I am surprised how good the games still look and sound on my new 65'' Sony 4K screen and the 10.000 euro sound system... even when you're standing on the other side of town :borg:

That Blu-Ray player in the PS3 is still considered to be reference quality. In fact, the Criterion Collection check their mastering on a PS3.

Well, I'm reasonably sure you're not interested in the God of War Trilogy, but Naughty Dog is a great way to go with PS3. The Uncharted series is a blast of fun and The Last of Us is probably the greatest game of that generation.

If time is factor in your enjoyment, I'd suggest Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 1. It's a very well written choose your own adventure game that's digestable in 2 hour chunks, althought the story is so compelling that you may decide to do more. If you like it, Season 2 is about to wrap up now, I believe a season pass is somewhere arounf $15-$20 on the PSN. I loved to get up early on a Saturday and get the latest episode in before my family woke up.

I really liked Guacamelee. It's a $15 downloadable game that probably about 3 hours long. You play as a Mexican Luchador who rises from the dead to save the love of his life from the clutches of evil. Technically, is a puzzle/platformer/brawler. I think you'd dig it.

Of course, I also think The Batman Arkham games have been some of the best of the generation too. I can't think of anyone who didn't like those.

Guacamelee is awesome, and I think they're even bundling it and its DLC up very soon.

How could I forget to mention the Mass Effect trilogy? If you like Star Trek, particularly Deep Space 9, then I think you'd enjoy the Mass Effect trilogy. It is a time suck and at its core it's a cover based shooter with RPG elements, but I think you'd find it worthwhile.

Check YouTube to see if it's something you'd be interested in.

There's a Tucker in that game, BTW. You can drive a Tucker (and other classic cars) in Mafia II.

I don't play games much, but I really wanted to get The Last of Us. It looks so cool.
However, my PS3 is giving me the yellow light of death. :(

I really liked Saints Row 3 and 4 a lot. They somehow upped the ante on the crazy both times which seemed hard to do. It'll be interesting to see where it goes next.

That's great news! I hope WC5: Frontiers will follow. I never finished the game on PC, because it crashed during a specific mission and there was no solution to fix the problem. It bugs me until this day, aaargggghhh! :(

well, finally got THE LAST OF US. played the intro. good but not sensational (yet?). i hate, hate, HATE the 3rd person perspective, in any game and shooting with the controller in general. how the hell can you aim properly? guess i'm too old, mouse and keyboard are more my thing.

but this one seems worth it.

@Aurora I just picked up a PS3 myself a few weeks ago. The third person perspective doesn't bother me so much but I fucking HATE the controller for shooting. Console gamers don't have a damn clue about what they're missing when it comes to shooters.

I'm halfway through the first Uncharted game, which is pretty awesome. Also started The Last of Us and I'm probably at the same point as you. So far not bad but not sensational.

i'm surprised the game isn't as i imagined it would be. still in boston, but it seems more like a puzzle game than an action adventure with a good story. basically it's moving from set piece to set piece and figuring out how to beat whatever infests the place with very limited resources. change the zombies to something more abstract and you've got your average smartphone game. with better graphics, a story and a different goal than pay to 'win', granted, but the mechanics are familiar.

    also, clickers *grrrrr*

I can't say enough good things about The Last of Us. That's possibly my favorite game of all time, which I am aware that when I say that, creates an unobtainable set of expectations for someone who hasn't played it. Keep at it and continue to let me know what you think.

Still liking it. Best game of all time? Nah. I always preferred open world games like the Elder Scrolls series. I liked (still would like if I had the time) to create my own path, doing whatever I want on a huge playground. Of course I knew this wasn't such a game, however.

I just got an XBOX 360, and one of the games I traded for was L.A. Noire. I've been playing it, and it's damned good. I love the old mystery serials from the 1940s, and this game has the perfect tone and setting. I can't wait to finish it.

I played LA Noire when it first came out. I remember being very impressed with its technical achievements and recreations of 1940's LA, but I found the gameplay severely lacking. I even botched an entire investigation and arrested the wrong suspect but the game kept going as if I had made the right decisions in order to advance the narrative. I found the last act of the game could have been eliminated and the game would've been better for it too. In the end, I'd say this was ultimately a forgettable game of that generation and easily Rockstar's least applaudable effort on the PS3/360.
