Well, when you're finished talking to her, perhaps you can accept the challenge. Or are you just creating a distraction because some of use know what a Pikey is?
You said: Along with the accompanying personal snipe that's endemic to WF and that, in some venues, would be considered trolling. When asked to provide an example to support your claim, you accused me of trolling. So if I've "proven [this] many times in the past," it should be ham 'n' cheesy for you to provide an example.
Back to The Doctor...I've had a fondness for Capaldi since his turn in Prime Suspect, and I really hope there are better scripts ahead. Hate to see him heading the cast of "the worst season of nuWho ever."
El Chup, your stupid claim is not even remotely worth taking seriously. I can promise you that that Thibodeaux, Louisiana and Pikeville, Kentucky house American accents that you'd never understand in a million years.
This thread suddenly veered into the bizarre and is difficult to follow. It is because I have that arrogant cunt bastard El Chup on ignore? Is he spamming up my thread? Anyway, back to Who. It seems we can all agree that that last episode was a train wreck. Clara's meltdown at the end couldn't have been more forced and out of character. I guess the writers are preparing for her exit.
Warning for flaming. Also, warning to El Chup for trolling. I have no interest in Dr. Who and do not care to spend time following this thread. Let's try to keep it civil and on topic, both of which are requirements in Media Central.
Um, yeah. I'm hoping that's a joke. @gul? If that little detour was a problem, it's more my fault than @El Chup's. But it shouldn't be a problem anyway.
Looked hinckey to me, and there were a few statements to the effect that Chup was derailing the thread. I'll have somebody else take a look at it. But here's the thing -- I looked at this thread because somebody reported WAB for calling Chup a cunt bastard. If we are going to have strict standards for behavior in this thread, that has to apply generally.
I'd just like to commend gul on his heroic act of golden glowing heroism in the face of ultimate wickedness.
My suggestion would be to tone down or preferably stop the insults in this thread. Also, if you want to continue the dialect discussion, I'd suggest starting a thread in the Red Room because it's taking the thread too far off topic.
Well, whoever did that is a ... person who has an utterly different ear for tone than I. Oh, and a cunt bastard. If it was Chup, I fully appreciate the irony and suggest we flog him, and me for falling for it.
Ah well. Definitely better than the last two weeks. The train was nice, though felt a bit like a retread of the Starship Titanic. The main gimmick didn't seem to make a lot of sense to me (why can only the victim see the soldier? how does the soldier know who is ill? and if people already report that saying the right words will save your life, but saying the right words end the soldier's existence, why does the soldier still exist?). The Clara/Doctor conflict, though interesting, seemed inserted into a completely unrelated episode.
Clara looked beautiful in 20s drag. The jelly babies were a wonderful touch. The plot made no sense, but that's not unusual. Capaldi talks too fast and mumbles, which is what makes him hard to understand, especially with the accent. When our Scottish cousin visited when I was 12 I had to ask him to repeat everything he said. I can't understand half what my South Carolina family says either. Some people have problems understanding accents. I'm sorry if that makes me a retard.
Oh - Orient Express story. I have a friend who's an actor. His theater troop got a dream job a few years ago - live dinner theater, performing Murder on the Orient Express, ON the Orient Express. Pretty damn cool.
I liked it. Capaldi seems to be able to blend something from all the previous doctors into his performance. I never pay much attention to the mcguffin of the week, I just enjoy the players
I really liked the part where the Doctor was "talking to himself" and channeling Tom Baker when he was "answering himself". That was really cool.
This season of Doctor Who has really gone down the crapper. Capaldi is awful, and genuinely seems irritated that he accepted the role to begin with. He's completely unlikable as the Doctor, and Moffat doesn't seem to know how to write for him. I keep giving it a chance, and it keeps disappointing me, so I may have to finally stop watching.
Clara's abrupt change of heart at the end seemed....well...abrupt. I liked the resolution of the villain and the realization that the Doctor while cold and calculating isn't totally heartless. But did he do it to be the right thing or did he do it for Clara? Did anyone else notice how sharp and clear everything was? It looked like videotape rather than film. When he was in the Captain's office I felt like I could reach through my screen and grab his whiskey glass.
Capaldi is probably my third-favourite Doctor, behind Tennant and (Tom) Baker. If he keeps up the excellent work, he may even surpass Tom Baker in my estimation. (I realize that's probably heresy for you Americans, but you have to realize that the rest of the world grew up with a Doctor other than Tom Baker.) Any problems this season has had so far has more to do with the scripts than Capaldi's talent and portrayal. That would be my biggest gripe this season. Clara's character is all over the map. Again, I blame the writers.
Yes, Capaldi is aboslutely amazing, and the one consistently good thing about this very mixed season. With Clara a close second, I liked her better in the first few episodes -- her current antics really are all over the place. Each personal scene works, but they don't hang together at all.
Greatly appreciate the added information from Classic Who fans. The jelly baby scene was puzzling to this n00b.
