Back when some law enforcement organizations started getting Special Weapons and Tactics Teams (SWAT) every leo wanted one of their own. Basically it become a domestic law enforcement arms race.
They're technically not. But, those guys do belong to the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team (HRT). They fulfill an important role and they're very, very good at what they do. They are outside their mandate. They're the Federal Bureau of Investigation, not the Federal Bureau of Subduing and Apprehending. Their weapons of choice are supposed to be a magnifying glass and a pair of tweezers - so they can investigate things.

I've seen them in action, twice. They were the kinds of professionals you want in that job and I spent some time with them when I used to spend time behind a long rifle.

My ice cube trays are (what I proudly proclaim) a renewable resource. If you don't take the cubes out of the trays you can thaw them out and refreeze them over and over and over. If you live in a cold enough climate you can set them outside to freeze, which is a totally "green" way to do it. I'm thinking I get the Nobel Prize for this. BTW kudos on your weather machine. Everyone talks about the weather, but nobody ever does anything about it.
I got pulled over by INTERPOL once when I was driving around in Europe. They had a mobile crime lab/office and luckily everything was Kosher in their database. I played the role of befuddled foreigner, which is no stretch for me!

I used to think that, too, but it clearly hasn't been the case for a very long time. I would hope that they are still focused on criminal investigation, but aside from that, they have to go where the case takes them, don't they?
I guess I was thinking about the CIA not being allowed to operate inside the US and figgered it was the other way around for the FBI.
