Awesome! Guy gets drunk and forgets he left his twin babies in the car. What could go wrong? It's only summertime in the south with temperatures in a car around a gazillion degrees. For those of you opposing the death penalty in a situation such as this ......fuck you. http://www.wsbtv.com/web/wsbtv/news/local/two-infants-dead-after-being-left-in-hot-car/417439768
That's fucking horrific and the world would probably be a better place without him but it's not enough to convince me that the state should be able to execute its citizens. My country gets along just fine without the death penalty. Better than most.
I'm not in favor of the death penalty, but suggesting it for something like this is so ridiculous that only a mental defective would do it. The guy deserves to go to prison for that kind of negligence, but it's doubtful that he intentionally killed those two babies.
In this case I think a nice long prison sentence and the knowledge that his addiction was so out of control it killed his own children is enough.
Watching Dexter I kinda feel sorry for some of these types like Brother Sam. Maybe if he watched stuff like dexter or syriana he would understand why I feel sorry for a lot of criminals too. It is odd just prefer to have pschs and criminal grad studants study these guys in prison to hopefully prevent this type of stuff.
If it was somehow an accident it would be different. He slips on a banana peel as he's getting ready to bring the kids inside and gets knocked unconscious and wakes up hours later but it's too late? Fair enough, shit happens. Getting fucking hammered drunk and forgetting your kids? Fuck you, eat a bullet - this was totally preventable. I hope he has a wonderful time in prison - I hope the staff spreads the story of what he did around gen pop before he even arrives - serves the fucker right.
I have two grown kid, and a grand-daughter about the age of those babies. Sorry my pity meter isn't budging.
I suspect oldfella's wouldn't be as rabid to execute the guy. I also suspect that if the dead babies' daddy was white oldfella would have a different perspective as well.
I would never leave a loaded gun around the home. It only takes a few seconds to pop in a magazine in a pistol with practice, so there's no need. Now If the kid was old enough to know how guns work and how to shoot (any responsible adult should teach them) and still loaded up a gun and shot themselves it would be a tragedy no doubt. Sort of like if your kid stole your car keys and wrapped your car around a utility pole - you can't prevent everything. If you handed your alcoholic kid your car keys and a bottle of booze then went to bed and hoped for the best, you would be a human shit-stain. So you were saying?
Your suspicions would be false - I don't give a shit what color the family was - the guy was a criminally negligent human being. Read post #12 about guns. Regardless, your opinions about my sociological and political inclinations (while incorrect) are greatly appreciated. Feel free to engage in sexual intercourse with yourself!
Simply leaving a handgun without a gunlock on it in a home where a child is present is a criminal act in this state. As it should be.
Sorry, but the death penalty should be reserved for the worst of the worst. Bin Laden, Manson, Mark David Chapman, (sorry, but he killed John Lennon) Lee Harvey Oswald, but not some run of the mill moron. I agree with what Dinner said, let him live with guilt the rest of his life.
I prefer to just do criminology studies on the worst lock these guys up in maximum psych ward to prevent this stuff from happening in next generation.
What was the question? If I would be subject to the death penalty if my kid shoots himself with the gun in my nightstand? Assuming of course my kids were small children, yes I would be an irresponsible shit bag just like the guy who got drunk & forgot about his kids in the car. Both of these situations were preventable.
Just as all toxic chemicals, alcohol & medications should be locked in a safe in every home with a child. As it should be, but sadly isn't. Of course none of these things can be fatal, only guns as Dinner pointed out. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that fully 100 percent of the fatalities involving children are gun related. Matter-of-fact I'd check those two 16 month old kids for bullet holes.
the question was clearly stated... The "you" is quite obviously figurative. Still, I'll rephrase it for the intentionally obtuse. You (literal you) have stated that a specific act of negligence that causes the death of a child is suitable grounds for capital punishment. Would you (literal you) support a death penalty for other types of acts of negligence that result in the death of a child?
Yes I would! And when we factor in everyone in Georgia gets "hot cars kill" drilled into their heads 24/7 the pity meter doesn't kick in. Your results may vary.
Let the baby's mom have a go at him. It will save the state of Georgia the price of a trial and execution in about five minuets.
In related news: http://www.scarymommy.com/waze-gps-app-prevent-hot-car-deaths/ Waze has a reminder to let people know to check for their baby. I'm glad, since I can attest to five years of the military that getting sleep deprived can have you doing weird things and forgetting things if you're thrown off your routine (which is actually how a lot of these things happen).
I have an idea! Lock his ass in a hot car (handcuffed, blindfolded, duct tape over his mouth, a straight jacket to keep it interesting) and the only people that can assist in getting him out are two 16 month old babies. I'm not a savage.....I'd give them a full Craftsman tool kit to work with. Let the games begin!
Fuck em! 12 & 15 are definitely old enough to understand how guns work. Of course I grew up in a different time & place when most 12 & 15 year olds were around guns & used guns. Those kids who did not have gun exposure.....wait, you're not going to fucking believe this if you're under 40 or so....had enough responsibility (look it up, it's an actual word!) to stay the fuck away from what they didn't understand. I know, it sounds like science fiction, but it's true!
That's not how kids work. The majority of us were raised in an era where sex was seen as shameful and dirty and few of us understood what we were doing when we first did it. But I'm assuming @Spaceturkey 's point here was about not executing out of misplaced vengeance where it doesn't apply.
