Variety story It will center on Magnum's daughter from the original series, who takes over as a detective. Let's hope it's better than the Ghostbusters debacle.
Eh, guess I can't judge until it actually happens, but my instinct is that you can't have Magnum P.I. without, er, Magnum. I get it: Tom Selleck *is* Magnum. Re-casting just isn't likely to work. But building a show around "Magnum's daughter" is just taking a totally new show and calling the character "Magnum" without any real connection to the old show.
Maybe with some occasional cameos by Selleck and other original cast members it could work. But yeah, otherwise it's just a detective show in Hawaii.
I could see Selleck being a recurring character. I'm not sure he'd want to do full seasons because he has his avocado ranch to manage.
He also has his own TV show, which among other things involves mentoring children who are following in his footsteps.
I assume that would be a given. Thing is, this is all in the casting. Give it to, say, Katie Sackoff or someone else with that sort of presence and you'll e fine.
I'm sure she'd move on to lead her own show...but I didn't know if she was still on there or not. Anyway, you get the idea. Sarah Shahi, Lena Headley, whoever - just someone with a credible kick-ass reputation and a good on screen sense of humor. Speaking of which, Amy Acker needs a leading role on something ASAP
No, that was a dream sequence. In the finale he met his daughter and rejoined the Navy, while Higgins was revealed to be Robin Masters.
Yeah. The series ends with him rejoining the Navy. The same producer did JAG. I always wanted a season finale to be a cliffhanger with someone off screen saying "Looks like you need some help, Harm" [or whatever] and the camera panning over to see that it is Magnum.
Some things I never figured out about Magnum. 1) Didn't some of the last few episodes imply that Higgins was Magnum's father? 2) Didn't some other episodes imply that Higgins was actually the owner of the estate Robin Master? Even though both of those people were featured in person in previous episodes. For what its worth President Obama and his wife own the Robin's Nest estate now.
By the way, wasn't the entire reason for making Magnum P.I. in the first place so the studio could continue to use the infrastructure they had built up in Hawaii over the years shooting Hawaii Five O? Note, early Magnum episodes make several references to that series.
This could be good, and imo, should be used to resurrect Burn Notice's Sam Axe as a Rick type character
Don't rewatch the original series unless you're prepared for some of the worst, dated, action sequences (worse than even Ferrigno Hulk) to close out the last few minutes of the episodes. Probably it's because I've been so spoiled since, but imo three kids in gym class could choreograph better punch-out-the-bad-guys and/or point-guns-and-round-up-the-villains end scenes.
I don't remember much in the way of big punch outs. IIRC Magnum tended to use a gun if he faced serious threat. Wasn't his character a former Navy SEAL? Or was he simply Naval Intelligence?
If it's Magnums daughter then it's a continuation of the series , not a reboot. A reboot would be turning Magnum himself into a female character.
