It's not Remake-Robocop 2, it's Classic Robocop 4!!! Neil Blomkamp is directing. http://www.superherohype.com/news/418601-neill-blomkamp-to-direct-robocop-returns-for-mgm
Yeah, I like 2 as well - it kept the wry humour and the level of bleakness about the same as 1. 3 went with cheap attempts to make the concept more kid-friendly (despite the usual body-count)... the characters all get reworked into the ones in Robocop: The Series.
It will be renames “Goonies.” The lead will be a bitter ex-soldier who lost his best friend in Fallujah. His friends will be a wonderfully diverse cast of stereotypes. They’ll live in abject poverty. Chunk will be portrayed by Aziz Ansari, while Sloth will be played by John Cena.
Blomkamp wants Peter Weller back as Robo! http://www.darkhorizons.com/blomkamp-wants-weller-for-robocop-returns/
And your life has been richer and fuller because of that fact! But now that you know of its existence, you've been ruined.
I'll spoil the piece of shit for you. Robocop stops being Peter Weller. Robocop fights android ninjas. This is not as cool as it sounds. Not even a little bit. Robocop gets a rocket pack, and a missile arm. Again, not as cool as it sounds. They kill Lewis. For this crime alone, fuck this movie. The silver lining though? Frank Miller wrote the first draft of the screenplay, and further drafts butchered his vision so bad, his artistic temper tantrum was to write the original "Sin City".
The mini series is on amazon prime streaming. I tried to watch the first 15 minutes. It was difficult to get through much less understand what was happening. Zany cartoon villains. Crazy terrorists in the worlds safest city. Cops without weapons. Shot in 4:3 in 2001.
They basically wanted to continue the "kid-friendly" stuff that started in 3 (though 3 still has some pretty graphic violence) so suddenly Robo is shooting down chandeliers to knock out the crooks, using a taser, etc. And they ported over characters with just a rename - Lewis is back as Madison, the desk sergeant gets remade into a softer figure who adopts the show equivalent of the kid from 3... But yeah cartoon villainy. The bad guy from the pilot is called Dr. Cray Z Mallardo FFS. OK, he's doing some pretty horrific stuff injecting hobos with a total paralytic agent then scooping their brains out to test his city control supercomputer (which ends up being occupied by his too-nosey for her health secretary in the end and allies with Robo). The pilot is actually a mashup of the first three films, come to think of it... an OCP exec is trying to push his pet project (Metrobrain) via Mallardo, but the brains they're stealing from hobos aren't up to the job, like the failed Robocop 2s in the second flick. Robo gets evidence on them, so to prevent him testifying they hire a crook to take him down with a massive gun, like in 1. In the meantime, they whack Mallardo's secretary and use her brain in the computer (shades of Kane's death in 2) but she interfaces with Robo and helps bring his scrambled memory back (he survived the weapon hit, though needed repairs, but the OCP guy fried his memory whilst he was in the repair shop) - in doing so they replay the "Murphy's wife morphs to Lewis morphs to Lazarus" sequence from 3 as he wakes up, only with the digital image of the secretary (Diana) in place of Lazarus.
*Googles* Ah, crap, Robocop is MGM, and Terminator is Paramount. We'll never get the crossover fight outside of comics.
Why do I get the feeling you have Lucy lawless in a large plastic bag to preserve her, but really it is just your mom in a xena costume.
