Figures it would be Polk County. Sheriff Grady Judd is notorious for his loud mouthed "tough on crime" bullshit. (Remember when a suspect was shot 98 times "because thats all the bullets we had" ?) Let's see how tough he is when one of his deputies goes batshit.
That entire headline is only "exclusive" to everyone who actually paid attention for the past four years, NYT.
The problem with this lawsuit is that the Lincoln Project will almost certainly not be able to prove damages. Basically of the people exposed to the false statement that the Lincoln Project had a role in orchestrating the Jan. 6 insurrection, people would generally fall into two camps: 1. people who instantly disbelieve it and 2. People who might believe it but either don't negatively change their behavior toward the Lincoln Project. Even among the few who might think "Hey, the Lincoln Project went out of its way to make President Trump look bad," it's not like they were going to donate money to the Lincoln Project, speak positively about the Lincoln Project, etc. It's not like any of them called for the Lincoln Project to be investigated for its role in the riots or the members of the Lincoln Project can claim emotional damage from being falsely linked to the insurrection. A potential lawsuit would, however, allow for massive dives into communications among Rudy, Trump and the rest of that crowd, and probably depositions of them. And unlike the criminal investigations, there's no reason to think the Lincoln Project would not spill all the tea, all the time....
Plus, it's damn hard to win a slander or libel suit as a public figure, and the Lincoln Project qualifies. But, yeah, the depositions -- the ability to get certain Trumpian figures under oath -- may be the point.
Seems quite a few of the Capitol rioters didn't even bother to vote, but were so incensed about the election being "stolen" they committed federal crimes. Fuckwits. https://edition.cnn.com/2021/02/01/us/capitol-rioters-non-voters-invs/index.html
It's not my area of law, but I would think that while one could argue that George Conway or any of the individuals who are part of the Lincoln Project might qualify as public figures, an entity like the Lincoln Project would not. I would guess that one would have to be significantly better known than Conway to qualify as a public figure for defamation purposes. As far as I know, Conway has never held elective office and the husband of Kellyanne, who has been a public figure. It is possible to be considered a public figure due to one's proximity to one, I guess. But I would also say that the notion that the Lincoln Project planted the insurrectionists to make Trump look bad would meet the actual malice standard of either telling a knowing lie or having reckless disregard for the truth. I don't think that even Rudy could say under oath that he genuinely believed that the Lincoln Project coordinated criminal activity without bursting in flames.
A woman charged in the Capitol riot asked the judge for permission to leave the US for a vacation in Mexico
according to Trump some of you are good. The ones putting shingles on roofs in my neighborhood seem okay to me.
Am I supposed to blow you a kiss for not doing it? Are you confused about our relationship? I post things and you rep me for it and post my quotes. Now I have to tell you to repost my shit? Do you have COVID in your brain or something?
let's see....responding to his comment that he posted in Spanish, then making a lighthearted joke? Oh yes, that's as racist as it gets apparently. That said most Mexican roofers are very good. They're fast, experienced, dependable, and clean up after themselves. Would I hire them? If their company can prove that they are working here legally then of course I would. Are we clear here?
Why don't you just own up to having some racism? I do. I understand that because of the way I have experienced the world my brain has formed racist associations. It is impossible to live in a racist environment and not have racism cooked into your noggin. That does not mean you cannot confront it and correct for it. However, it is in there because people raised you that way. By people, I mean everyone and not just your parents. Children learn from more than just their parents. I know it sucks that people have fucked you up and you cannot control it. It is a learned behavior that you just automatically pick up on and may not even be aware of it. I know it sounds fantastical that something like that could exist and you would not even know it, but take a look at the trumpistas for a moment. You know some of them. They believe in stuff you know is wrong. They really think that the world works the way they say. It may be they believe jesus and god made the world 6000 years ago and either put the bones of dinosaurs to confuse us, or they rode them to work in the prehistoric past. People really think there was a great flood and noah had all the animals on one ship. We all know that is a story that is a parable and lesson for us to learn from. Some people think it is real. Those people think that way because that is what was put in their heads by their community. Your racist attitudes are like that. They are in there because the people around you who raised you were racist. Gotta go, lunch time Talk more later.
