It could be that he was lying about his actual biological need to go to Vulcan, or simply mistaken. But if so, he went pretty far out of his way to do it.
Yeah, I feel like he's being indirect and flowery there. Like you already said, it's implied he mated with Saavik on Genesis, showing the location wasn't really important.
I was thinking that too. This episode was dark and gritty, but I feel it came the expense of Captain Pike. Dude really needs to put his foot down. That last conversation between him & M’Benga? He knew that they were lying.
For the record, I really liked the last few episodes. This latest one reminded me of In The Pale Moonlight from DS9. I hope this show is around for the long haul, but I had a disturbing thought… so everyone knows Marvel is looking to make a Fantastic Four movie and wanted Adam Driver for Reed Richards. Well, I’ve read somewhere that Driver’s not interested. Anson Mount would make a perfect Reed Richards. Better than Driver, IMHO. SNW would loose him forever.
well, damn... not like I can fix it. and since when can't we grab pics from memory alpha? Fucked up thing though? Booker Bradshaw is a decade younger than Babs Olusanmokun in these pictures AND 20 years younger than the character of M'Benga in the setting of 2267-69. dude was born in 1940...
I've got the solution! SNW M'Benga goes back in time, and his younger self takes his place, and erases him, and becomes TOS M'Benga. Thus youthing him, and demoting him.
Back then people in general seemed to look older at a given age than they do now (or for the past 40 years or so, IMHO). The 18-year old seniors in my parents' 1957/1959 yearbooks all look like they're in their mid-30s, with 9-5 jobs or they're housewives. At the same age twenty eight years later, my classmates and I all look like kids.
Yeah, life was harder back then and people weren't as nourished. Shorter life expectancies and such. IIRC, Peter Capaldi started playing the 12th Doctor around the same age that William Hartnell had to stop playing the 1st Doctor as it was becoming too strenuous for him.
In the movie “Cocoon,” Wilfred Brimley is living in a retirement home in his 50s, so he’s younger than Tom Cruise is now.
Yeah, a Golden Girls remake today could star Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Lopez if you cast new actors the same age as the originals.
oh, I get that. even with the grey hair and beard, I still have to double down on the fact I really am in my mid 50s. Keeps me in 37 year olds though the original point was @Nova's contention that they aren't the "same" character, which is generally fuelled by the age difference between the actors.
Like-in universe TOS, M'Benga is in his mid 40s SNW, he's about the same age as B O... late 30s. visually, both seem plausible.
Mount for Bruce Wayne IMO (assuming as supposedly discussed that Brave and Bold is about a mature, adjusted, Bruce mentoring Damien et al)
Also, Paul Wesley is too damned old to be playing 27 year old Lt. Kirk Assuming this whole revival thing runs it's course, by the time he's supposed to be playing 33 year old Captain Kirk he's going to be probably in his late 40's (because more than one year IRL time passes to shoot and broadcast one year-ish in universe) That's not going to end well.
I ALMOST DID A LITERAL ROFLMAO - NEARLY FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR BACKWARDS W/ THE KLINGONS. It's a sturdy recliner too. These bastards are mad - love it. Also, that sure as hell better not be it for Spock & Christine.
This episode was alright. Wish they could've pushed more choreography with a few of the numbers but hell, half the cast besides Celia Rose Gooding had to be autotuned so they probably couldn't attemp anything to strenuous on that. I've been in the fence about Ka'an but it worked a little for me here. I'd forgotten about his thing with Carol. I feel like the internet is gonna have it's pitchforks coming for Christine for how quickly she dumped Spock That last number with the Klingon insert It was fun.
S02E09 "Subspace Rhapsody" I am a musically oriented person. Music is my life. I hear harmonies in all things. This episode was flawless. Flawless. Also, I just about pissed myself when the Klingons showed up on screen. Fucking flawless.
well, 35 year old Shatner (in 1966) vs 41 year old Paul Wesley (who would've been 39 at time of filming in 2021). I agree, it's a bit of an issue if you stare too hard at it. But TV has always had people playing younger, and Trek is no different in that regard. Hell, Melissa Navia and Christina Chong are both almost 40.
I love music. A lot. But the list of musicals I like is extremely short. This episode of SNW is not among them. Just not my thing. Like how I love jazz but can't stand Dixieland.
Same. Well. I do like Dixieland and I love musicals, but this episode of SNW was god awful. This is why the writers are writing for SNW and not musicals on Broadway. Sounded like junior high chorus try-outs.
At times yeah, but also I don't mind it. The logic was that they would burst into song, not that they'd be good at it. I admire that SNW is willing to swing for the fences with these things (crossover with an animated show, musical episodes) that sometimes could not hit the mark some want, but when they work or people like them are amazing. Still more fun than a random filler episode.
I would not have minded it nearly as much if the tempo was just a bit more upbeat. For crying out loud, they nearly put me to sleep. And it’s only 6:30 here. Also, as far as the storyline goes … I could see if some … sub space … energies (?) had such and effect on the beings of the galaxy that they felt the need to tell the truth. But, that makes them break out in song? What could possibly be the scientific explanation for that? They’re making Young Sheldon cry. I could see it in Buffy because it was completely fantasy. This …. This was a travesty.
All the stuff about improbability fields (which felt very HHGTTG) was Spock speculation. If you prefer, just pretend that they accidentally blasted a song into the contiuum and woke a Q up who decided to have some fun. I do wish they had done one of these two options now though (Two videos, both worth clicking through to): https://twitter.com/EditKrisEdit/status/1687065205740621825?s=20 https://twitter.com/JamesAmeyUK/status/1687074344730492928?s=20
I’ll watch the videos tomorrow, but … I accept Spock speculation and … Q would have been a …another storyline. I think I just so disliked the singing, its colored my perception of the storyline of the episode.
