It's not worth addressing because the people who usually whine about DEI are those who are looking for an excuse for why they are actually mediocre.

It would be on the people who claim that the push for diversity, equity and inclusion results in people who didn't earn their positions on the aggregate, since they are the proponent of the claim.

Typically those proposing such things either a) do not attempt to support the claim b) support the claim with logical fallacies and other fairly easily debunked arguments.

Obama was a diversity hire, and he let a million people die of covid, and spread anti-mask conspiracies, and let Haiti collapse, built a crappy unfinished border wall, and tried to collapse democracy.

If you are claiming that it is simply impossible to prove that "diversity hires" didn't earn it, then just say so.

But I think that is wrong on its face.

One does not have to be "labeled" a diversity hire to fall in such a category. Many large businesses provide demographics of their employees without saying they were "diversity hires." Surely, someone interested in providing proof in good faith that diverse employees are worse on average than non-diverse employees could find objective support for that contention without cherrypicking this bad gay employee or that incompetent Latino or whatever.

Nobody is ever going to say I”m hiring you because you’re black and that’s the only reason, you clearly aren’t qualified for this position and then have that written down and stored in HR somewhere.

You do realize racists do hire based on skin color, and manyu do claim it outright. Hence your projection that people hire non-whites as better employees is merely a projection of your open racist beliefs.

If DEI was just socialism or “didn’t earn it”, then why is it necessary?

If it weren’t necessary, all job positions would more accurately reflect the general population. If 50% of the population is female, then approximately 50% of executive level positions would be female. If 40% of the population is black, 40% of the employees in any given position would be black.

But, we all know that isn’t reality. THAT is why DEI is necessary.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what do you have in mind as to why this would cause any more of an uproar now than it might have then?

The thing is, the sort of people who are arguing against DEI are claiming that unqualified people ARE being hired just because they are black (or whatever). So it shouldn't matter what the company claims as to the reasons the person gets hired. Because as we discussed elsewhere, the companies could be lying or spinning or any number of things.

What should matter is the actual results. If it were in fact true that people hired in part based on diversity, equity and inclusion are worse than non-diverse workers, or companies that embrace DEI do worse than companies that are not woke, it shouldn't be hard to substantiate such claims.

The fact that people scarcely try beyond the hee-hee "didn't earn it" or low-level arguments is pretty telling about the truth of the assertion and/or the people making it.

Let me just cut into this with reality. Employers get a ton of applications for every opening. Almost no job gets the best of the best of applicants because just being more likable in the interview process can put you ahead of someone who is an introvert or is not personable in an interview. It also almost always helps to have a person employed there recommending you. In the case of a predominantly white or christian workplace results in more whiter christians being hired because they have a person employed by the company recommending them. I have been in a ton of professional workplaces that will offer present employees a bonus for recommending people who get hired.

There is no equal footing for hiring. I will also say there is little equality in promotion either. Networking is huge. Networking is based on societal status and social connections which benefit the predominant cultures and skin colors of any area. When you are out of power and out of that loop something has to put you back in there.

Federal fuckup is angry because he feels he should be in a much better position than sammich maker, but when you have 1 position and a hundred or more applicants you need more than white trash parents from the middle of nowhere Virginia to help get you a decent job. Even the shitbag racist evangelical church in your podunk town is not going to do you any real good down in the big city. They may be hiring white people, but they are not looking for hicks with felony convictions.
