I can understand making stories (like explaining the big bang) to uneducated people very simple so they can understand them, but outright lies like talking snakes and worldwide floods? Not buying it.

What likely happened was a local flood which eventually became a story of a world wide flood. There are several flood stories around the world, so who knows what really happened. Perhaps some of it had to do with the preceding ice age?

Must admit, I'm genuinely not enlightened by tour post as to your reason. With respect, it didn't answer what I asked you. I am looking at the logic and plausibility of these concepts.

I'm not sure what you want me to answer. You realize there are plenty of religions that believe in a soul, right? If you want a logical or scientific reason, I kind of hinted at it earlier. Energy can't be created or destroyed, so the energy from our bodies has to go somewhere. If there are electrical energies in our brains like neurons, that energy exists in our brain. I believe that energy is transcendental and what makes up the soul. There's a lot that we don't know about the brain. Perhaps it's a vessel for the soul? Also, I speculate that more advanced races have evolved beyond physical form, so maybe they have discovered some spiritual realm that we are not aware of. We've all encountered things unexplainable like thinking of a song and then it plays on the radio or déjàvu. There's got to be something to that. Perhaps it's God or the universe or fate or whatever that drives those things and perhaps it's our soul involved as well. I don't proclaim to know the answers, it's just what I believe. I just believe there's something more than randomness and luck guiding the universe. Of course we can talk about string theory as well. Maybe that has something to do with it, I'm not going to proclaim to know. I believe it for personal reasons. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't feel those beliefs should be ridiculed. I started off by saying I didn't want to get into it, but you asked. I'm not trying to convert you or convince you.

No doubt about it! However........religion doesn't take into account the "ice age" or other geographic/geologic/biological events occurring before the earth "magically" arrived on the scene. Religion (christianity for sure) doesn't acknowledge glaciation and proto-humans and so forth that were around before "civilization" kicked into high gear. Everything went from "let there be light" to the current configuration of weather and climate within a week. But no doubt about it oral history would have a strong basis in actual events (versus fantasy events) that are relatively recent.

    Why can't dissipate?

And if you believe "for yo yr own personal reasons", aren't those reasons open to critical analysis?

Do you think the left over images on your monitor have to go somewhere?
I mean, all that energy doesn't get destroyed, is there a Youtube Heaven?
Or, are you lke me, and just assume it all dissipates as heat, and EM?

I agree, it might disapate which is why I think it's more akin to the force where the energy is just used for something else. I've already said as much.

Or the theory that if light behaves as a particle or a beam (depending on how it's measured) but that light would have to have started out billions of years ago in one state or the other - as if the light could predict the future! But that said, maybe there is a soul or some type of what we now call "supernatural" force. But IMO it's like gravity or electromagnetism - it has nothing to do with good or evil or religion or culture or anything else we can spin. It is what it is, period.

Sure, they are up for debate. I'm benevolent in my beliefs. All I ask, in accordance with the first amendment, that you respect my right to believe what I want. I'm not asking anyone to adhere to my beliefs. You'll find that if you ask, without being a dick, I'll answer just about anything.

No, I agree. I doubt it has anything to do with evil or good. It's just nature doing its thing. That being said, I do believe in a soul and I believe it goes somewhere, where, I don't know.

But each religion claims to know where the souls go. But if there is science behind it (still not understood) it works the same across the board. It's not like gravity works differently for different people.
These not yet understood forces have been around forever.

Then the answer is that we don't actually know the science behind the religion and religion doesn't know the science. There's still a lot to be discovered. Maybe science doesn't have all of the answers? I think it doesn't. I also think that religion doesn't either. Maybe there's something in between? I think science has more in common with religion than we know. I also think that there is something guiding us which is beyond both.

A human being needs my help, and it costs me nothing to aid them? Why wouldn't I help them? Heck, even if it did cost me something, I might help them, depending upon their plight, regardless of who they love. I've donated money this year to help people in Nepal after the earthquake, I've donated money to help a friend of a friend after they had a stroke. I've given money to panhandlers in the street who claimed they needed a meal or bus fare home.

I've done this even though I'm not a man of means by any definition, and I've done it without expecting anything in return. Why? Because I recognize that were circumstances just a hair different, I could be reduced to begging strangers for money, or relying on organizations to survive. I would rather live in a world where everyone has a chance to better themselves, regardless of the mistakes they've made in the past, and what they might think of me, than I would a world where only those who adhere to a narrow (and ever changing) definition of what constitutes as "right" are the only ones to survive.

I'll put it one further. If Dayton ever needed help financially to pay a utility bill, a medical bill for his wife or daughter. I'm willing to bet that most of on here, if we were able to do so, would donate to help him out. Even in light of our feelings or opinions about him, and the type of person he comes across as. Even though he has never told any one of us he loves us, or even likes us. And even with the explanations given to him in this thread and others, he still be flabbergasted at the thought og helping someone who loves someone else.

I don't love any of you on this board other than the usual general love for all mankind I feel.

    Why should I?

And again, you completely miss the point.

But we wouldn't care if you did or didn't, we would help you if we would regardless of our religion, or as you have pointed out repeatedly in spite of being Christian.
