Has it occurred to you that it is possible that Obamacare is NOT such a wonderful thing that people might not rush to sign up?

It's just insurance dude. But, hey, if you're willing to do without, and run the risk of losing everything over an unexpected medical bill in the hundreds of thousands of dollars... we promise we won't think you any stupider than we already do.

I've been through this with all of you before Chardman.

If I have an unexpected medical bill in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, then it doesn't matter what kind of insurance I have. Because any conceivable insurance that I can buy won't cover a high enough percentage of those bills to keep me from being ruined.

And we've been through this with all of you before Dayton. The ACA removes arbitrary lifetime limits on coverage in all plans, and removes restrictive annual limits on benefits in all new plans and existing group health plans so people know that all of the care they need will be paid for. After you've paid your annual deductible, your coverage is pretty much absolute.

Why aren't you at the ACA website? Seriously, it was designed for people like you. Are you just ignorant of the 6% cap or are you really putting your family's lives at risk for some sort of stupid political posturing?

Thanx Dinner. I originally mentioned the cap (which was kinda the whole point), yet somehow managed to edit it out of my post. D'oh!

See Dayton, you could get hit with a $250,000 bill, which you'd likely never be able to pay off on your own, but with insurance, under ACA's 6% cap, you'd be covered for all but about $2640 (assuming your annual pay is in the neighborhood of $44k.)

(Edited because I was half-asleep when I first posted, and muffed some very basic math.)

That seems doubtful as you missed the whole 6% cap for teacher's take home pay for AR thing. I.E., even you could afford to cover your family if you wanted to especially now. You know, I always thought you had mean streak a mile wide and were generally a simpleton but I never thought you were such a total dirt bag as to put the lives and welfare of your family at risk just so you could make a political point. It seems I over estimated you, Dayton, and you're even more of a malignant cancer on everyone around you than even I thought. I feel so sorry for your family.

"I hate Obama so much I am going to take risks with my family's lives and welfare. That will show Obama!"

I hope you're just appallingly ignorant and not serious about this but, sadly, I bet you really are stupid enough to do such a thing. It is pathetic how you run around bad mouthing something which YOU, personally, would be one of the primary beneficiaries of not to mention your poor abused family. For once in your life man the fuck up and do the right thing by them.

I'm willing to bet Dayton can get health insurance for his whole family for less than $250 per month not the $600 per month he has claimed and that it is entirely due to the ACA and the state's move to help teachers (which Garament was so kind as to link to). That he continues to bad mouth the ACA even while knowing absolutely nothing about it says something especially when he personally would see ~$350 per month in savings. You truly are an ignorant man, Dayton.

Your cost is 20% through your employer, look at this.
    upload_2013-12-30_22-26-54.png

Here is the subsidized cost roughly.

    upload_2013-12-30_22-29-4.png

Using the above, he could be around ~$170.

But as you've pointed out, he is Dayton...

Are you really so stupid as to believe that if you were to have another kid, that it would be a perfect pregnancy without any complications at all? The link you posted would refer to only a perfect delivery, without any other costs such as an ambulance if needed, any prenatal care, or any other thing that could go wrong, even as small as needing a day or two of hospital care before or after the pregnancy.

    http://www.viralnova.com/hospital-bill/

The other thing to remember about Dayton's self insurance (I.E. just paying everything yourself) comment is that private purchasers often get charged 500% more for the same service vs what insurance companies pay. The link shows a bill for a two day hospital visit to have an appendix removed and the over the counter cost was ~$53k but once the insurance company settled the cost was down to just $11k. You don't get discounts like that on your own but insurance companies all get those discounts.

Thank you, Ed. As usual Dayton has been well and truly pwnd. No doubt Dayton will continue to spew nonsense about the ACA even though HE is the one who would be getting 7/9ths of his insurance covered.

[Dayton Mode] Irrelevant Dinner. An appendix is nothing like a pregnancy, they are two different situations entirely.[/Dayton Mode]

The sad thing is, I really believe that Dayton believes that he would get the lower rate and that he believes that he would not face anything catastrophic.

And he did manhandle a lawyer.

    Interesting Ed.

Two questions: What if my income is actually closer to 40,000 a year and do you count things like unemployment benefits my wife received which might bump household income to around 47,000 for the 2013 calendar year? Plus her pay as a substitute teacher which would then bump income up to 50-51,000 for the 2013 year?

I guess that is too complicated for him because he "checked" earlier, remember? I mean if he's so stupid he can't even use the basic calculator there isn't much hope he would be able to fill out a two page application.

Plugged in to your link and this is what I got.

In general, employees who are offered insurance through work are not eligible for subsidized exchange coverage, so long as their insurance meets specified requirements. You would only be eligible for subsidized exchange coverage if your income is between 1 and 4 times the federal poverty level and you would have to pay more than 9.5% of your household income for your own coverage through the insurance offered by your employer.

    Which you qualify for.

Change it to "No" where it asks if you are offered insurance through your employer. Because at $51k you are at 184%, which is within the 1 and 4 times, making you eligible for subsidizing.

That's gross pay now take all of your deductions including the child credit and morgage interest deductions, etc... You'll get back down to where you can get a subsidy even assuming you're not padding the numbers.

Any way you look at it Dayton could get a silver plan for ~$200 or less but he's just being a retard and playing roulette with his family's future.

This is what I get for the Bronze plan Ed which if I read it right is the minimal plan I would be required to obtain

For example, you could enroll in a Bronze plan for about $2,553 per year (which is 5.01% of your household income, after taking into account $2,765 in subsidies). For most people, the Bronze plan represents the minimum level of coverage required under health reform. Although you would pay less in premiums by enrolling in a Bronze plan, you will face higher out-of-pocket costs than if you enrolled in a Silver plan.

Now that still amounts to 210 dollars a month give or take out of my paycheck which is still a substantial hit at this time.

Consider that my parents did not purchase health insurance until they were in their 60s.

At $51k. the Bronze plan is $1901, or $159 a month. Which is a lot lower than having to pay a year's salary for something as 'minor' as having your appendix removed, even with a $12k max out of pocket cost. Getting stuck with a $40k bill, would take 21 years to pay off at $159 a month, or 16 years at $210, at zero interest.

I had my appendix out years ago. While there is a remote possibility, I really don't think it is likely it will grow back.

Dayton would rather pay up to $400 in tax penalties and get nothing than provide for his family.

I wonder if he has car insurance? Does he value his car more than his family?

I know you're just desperately trying to be obtuse in order to avoid admitting the obvious but if you like we could change the example to covering your poor abused wife in the event of the birth of a second child, you needing additional care for your pre-existing condition (namely diabetes), or the relatively high probability you're going to have hypertension and/or a heart attack at some point since you are very over weight. That's just the easily foreseen things not to mention the stuff you don't see coming like cancer or hundreds of other conditions. These are people you supposedly love who we are talking about so why aren't you doing your duty to provide for them?

Also previously Dayton said he's taking the medications his doctor told him to take but I'm wondering when was the last time he even went in to see his doctor. Do you even know that these things change over time and that periodically your medications need to be adjusted or at least reevaluated? So going once five years ago doesn't cut it, Dayton. Especially if you have more than one medical condition going on at a time and if you have type 2 diabetes there is also a high level of probability that you're also hypertensive.

If you're not going to do the right thing and cover your family for just $170 per month (not the $600 you were previously claiming) then I hope you at least are willing to pay the $20 per month for term life insurance so at least your family has something to fall back on when you die due to an easily treatable condition.

I see my doctor every six months. Which is pretty standard for having your medication resubscribed. Labs for glucose levels, cholesterol and that are run annually.

As for life insurance, my wife is staunchly against it so I have never insisted upon it. I do try to bring up occasionally preparing for my dying before her and the needs of her and our daughter but she refuses to discuss ANY aspect of it at all. And I mean completely refuses. Not even in a humorous manner in some way.
