Will Smith punched Chris Rock on live tv. Time to go back to live with Uncle Phil.

That's fucking wild. It looked like a bit until Will Smith was sitting back down and cursing/yelling at Chris Rock.

I didnt know this until just now, but Jada Pinkett Smith shaved her hair due to struggles with alopecia. So I understand where he is coming from, that was not an appropriate joke and it clear upset both Jada and Will. But that did not justify violence.

It's hard to tell, but it seemed like he was still laughing at whatever the previous joke was. Or else he saw how much that joke offended Jada and then reacted.

Good on Chris rock for acting calm and trying to recover from that. The joke was obviously in poor taste, and maybe he was not aware of her troubles. However, good on him for checking his ego and not going any further. The joke was terrible, but that was some positive masculinity right there to taker the hit and not have to retaliate with agression.

However, something does need to happen to Will Smith over this due to how public it was and his stardom. Society, not chris rock, needs to say physical assault is not OK. That is a night of professionalism and image being recorded for a worldwide audience and to think that assaulting someone was even an option that could happen without punishment is something that cannot be allowed.

Especially today when we have so many loud mouth assholes making comments that make you want to punch them. You have to control your fucking hands.

They have to charge Will. They do not have to put him in jail. Fine him and get some money, and make him do apologies and some PSAs. Do some talking about lowering the stress when in a situation that makes you feel like hitting someone. Humanize it and show it as being toxic and something you can learn to fight.

Chris Rock should not have to press charges. Part of the reason for laws is that they tell society you never do this. If this happened at some private event with feew people witnessing it and chris did not want to press charges I would be cool with that, but this was really public and letting it just happen sends a very bad message so charges have to be pressed based on the evidence of the crime happening. There are times when the state has to press the charges.

That does not mean that Will is a huge threat and has to be charged right away and arrested. The charges have to come.

Chris Rock should have slugged Smith because of all the news stories talking about the Smith’s sex life.

Did they not get security to escort Smith out because they knew he was going to win best actor? Probably. Messed up sense of priorities but the show must go on!

One thing I do know is that the Smiths are shameless self-promoters with publicists who skillfully take advantage of the algorithms on news aggregation websites in order to increase clicks. Their "news" is not much different from the Kardashian of the week clickbait (or, in British-speak, weekly royal family news). So even if Jada Pinket Smith has alopecia, I don't fucking believe her when she says it, and it's reasonable that Chris Rock and his writers don't either.

A very, very ugly moment that says a lot about Will Smith and his marriage. It's also troubling how some are attempting to justify it.

"Hey, I know! Me and Chris will do a fake skit where I slap him, and for the bit to stick, I'll have to commit to it hard enough that it hurts my reputation, and career, and tarnishes the moment for the rest of the cast and crew when/if my movie gets an award".

I’m not sure about California but in WA assault is a criminal offense not civil so it is the prosecutors office who decides to press charges not the victim.

Watching it live, at first I thought it was a bit because they silenced the audio for the US broadcast.

The clean feed from Australia and Japan clearly show that it wasn't staged.

That's one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen.
