Is everyone else seeing freakishly low gas lately? I haven't seen $2.99 gas in Northern California since Katrina killed a couple of the refineries down South. Should we be expecting a rise after next Tuesday and the elections are over?
Welcome to the party. Gas has been around $2.81 here for a couple weeks. For what it's worth, this is ALWAYS the annual low-point for gas prices. They are worse right around memorial day, and lowest somewhere around Christmas.
$3.39 is the lowest I've seen in Chicago, which is the lowest it's been in years. My brother in rural Illinois says $2.94.
I realize that, but like I've said....in California, we haven't seen gas under three dollars in nearly a decade. Back in April, it was damn near five dollars.
Supplies of oil are up thanks to fracking et al, and the global economy is sluggish. The latter is not good at all. Sent from my iPhone while driving
Presently, the price of a barrel of oil is wavering from a high of $80 to a low of $75, and then back up again. The Saudis have said that they're NOT planning on cutting back production, which has the markets in a tizzy, as it's throwing off all their projections.
Basically, what Rob Matter and Tuckerfan have said. The huge increase in North American production has limited the ability of OPEC to manipulate supply/prices). The on-going and worsening global depression has lessened demand. More supply + less demand = lower pump prices. I heard yesterday of a station here charging $2.89. Last Spring, it was above $4 here. We have a ballot question for next Tuesday that would repeal a recent gas tax increase. These low prices probably will make people feel less pressure to vote yes.
Just paid $2.99 at Costco. Lady said it would go down another 10 cents at 10:30. Of course she told me this as I was almost done filling up the tank.
Yup, been below $3 in the Delta stations around here for a few weeks. (Delta is one of those companies that seeks out the cheapest gas they cane find to supply their stations, and passes the saving on to you!)
It was down to ~$3.05 here last week, but I think I filled up at $3.15 yesterday morning (don't worry, I had to run 20 miles out of town and back; I still rode my bicycle to work).
$2.68/gallon around here at several stations. Been sub-$3 for several weeks now. Am enjoying it while I can. Yes, the prices will increase post-election...you can bank on it!
Damn, Mewa, that's an expensive bus ride! $1.60, free transfer to another bus, fifty cent transfer to the subway: $2.10, unlimited transfer to other trains, one free transfer to the bus:
I'm stuck out in Calexico due to work for the next few months but the prices out here are much cheaper than I remember back home. Last time I filled up it was $3.21 per gallon. It sounds like NorCal is cheaper still.
What? No bike racks on NYC buses? That first class jewel of a city? That city that is actively encouraging bike riders? The city of cities! Even buses down here in Floriduh have bike racks! Looks like NYC has to get knocked down a few notches. With no bike racks on buses NYC is looking like Cleveland. (but I bet Cleveland has bike racks on their buses)
Dude, they have bike racks on all buses and trolleys in San Diego and we're not exactly the most forward thinking city when it comes to mass transit. Why are you folks behind the curve when you're so far ahead of the curve on everything else?
Depends where you are. I live close enough to rail and bus that using a bike to get to either is not required. But some people might live a mile from the nearest bus, so they ride that portion of the trip. Or maybe they have a mile or two on the other end, so again they ride that part, and need to be able to transport the bike along with them. Not even NYC has such ubiquitous transit coverage to eliminate that last mile. When I ride, it's because I want to do that for the entire trip, but that is not universal. NUC has a bike share (CitiBike), so obviously some people have use for a bike before or after the bus.
I can take a bike on the ferry and the subway but not the bus. You can ride your bike over the Brooklyn Bridge. Plus we have this...
