Yep. That's the one I want. It has the little holographic 'death or ruthless maiming circle' around the central dot, does it not?
AKA: H-Cog I had one on my SAW over there and one on my M-4 over here. I am also trying to figure out a way to... happen upon one now that I work in the Arms Room. Although I think I'll have to do another tour to do so... it's a 'sensitive item' so has to be signed for to leave the room...
There we go, there's a decent picture. And don't worry. If the douchebag Blackhawk pilot ever drops you in a lake instead of a field, and you get completely submerged, it'll still work fine!
Why would you think that?!?! Now we don't have enough for everyone to get them, but some team leaders and all squad leaders on up get them. Everyone else on the ground gets an HCog (unless you have a thing for 68s, which normally just drivers and TCs get).
A lot of the Marine infantry bubbas hate the ACOG at the rifle range. I guess they make them qual with them. And the consensus seemed to be that it was good at 200M, OK at 500M and completely worthless at 300M. And another captain I know who did a tour as a ground-pounder in Iraq wasn't impressed with it (although I forget what his gripe was).
Having carried both in live fire/high threat situations, the EoTech leaves the Aimpoint in the fuckin' dust. http://www.eotech-inc.com/nightvision.php Scroll down to the bottom.
Where's the giggle setting? Having never even seen either one up close, I'm just not sure I like the huge dot and the circle on the Eotech. Seems cluttered to me... ...but what do I know? I'll try both before I decide. Besides...there's other gun stuff I want to spend money on before I get a high dollar red dot. I'm still considering putting "real" grips and a beavertail grip safety on the 1911, and I want one of these for my PTR.
1. 68 has no NV setting. 2. Smaller.... uh... screen. 3. 68 requires you to put your eye up to the optic and you have to close your weak eye. An H-Cog is fired with both eyes open and you don't have to bring your cheek to the stock. You just throw your weapon up and fire.
No, but you can leave the newer ones on for 8 years before the batteries die. True. I've seen tons of them mounted too far forward for that to be very easy. Are you sure about that? That doesn't jibe with a lot that I've read about them. Hell, I've read that Marines train to use the ACOG with both eyes open during MOUT operations. If you can do that with an ACOG, then surely you can do it with an Aimpoint.
