When the truck they were using was hit by enemy fire, Dennis provided suppressing fire to allow his fellow soldiers to escape until he was mortally wounded. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest military decoration for valor. He was transported to Bagram Air Base hospital in Afghanistan, where he died of his wounds on June 26. Sgt. Kelvin Edgar Feliciano Gutierrez, 21 Anasco, Puerto Rico, USA Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division Gutierrez was a .50 caliber gunner on a vehicle that was returning from patrol when it veered off the road and turned over. Gutierrez suffered fatal injuries while trapped under the vehicle and died at Bagram Air Base north of Kabul, Afghanistan, on June 28, 2003
