Well, like I just said, I've done that. Again, I said at the time that I'd consider it. I considered it. Did it. It's done. :P

Why did you reject it? The advice comes from people who are experienced in using the internet for generating business and/or interest. Do you know that there was a time that I will billing £17k a month purely on internet work?

What are you reasons for rejecting the advice?

Are you reading what I'm writing? I've told you twice now that I did not, in fact, reject it. I implemented it.

I read your criticisms. You apparently haven't actually read my response to them. Your criticisms are so vague when they address the work itself, rather than myself personally, that I have no good faith basis to believe that you've actually read the work. Go back and read what you've written. I treat it like valueless personal chaffing because that's how it's written.

You don't like the narrator's accent. Noted, but that's a subjective preference on your part, not an objective criticism. Neither is it constructive, because you suggest no fix for it. You claim the characters don't ring true -- but that claim is nothing but the driver for a personal attack as regards your opinion of my empathy. Even if you honestly think my characters seem hollow, the personal attack means I'm not taking that point seriously.

You really have an astonishing level of chutzpah to dress up trolling as "constructive criticism" and expect me to regard it as anything but trolling.

I'm not using Storm as a benchmark. I'm pointing out that somebody whose ability and advice I have a reason to respect, and who presented that advice in a civil way, got his advice listened to. It tends to work like that when you're not a dick to somebody.

    "Your cooking tastes like puke".

    "Do you have constructive criticism?".

"Yes, stop making it taste like puke".

    "How?".

    "Stop putting puke in it".

"I'm not putting puke in it".

    "......your cooking tastes like puke".

See, Dickynoo's criticism I would take. Garamet's, too. Because while both Dickynoo and Garamet are people I have regularly rawred with, they're not vindictive about it. They don't follow me around pokin' until I yell at 'em, then pretending like they were innocent little lambs. Besides which, I've read their stuff, as I've read Storm's stuff, so I know they'll know what they're talkin' about.

I'm not criticizing anybody's work, nor would I expect that criticism to be taken seriously if I offered it.

See, here's the problem. I could write a novel that outsells the Bible, restores sight to the blind, gives the lame to walk again and gives reality TV show contestants personalities, and there are certain posters here whom I could guarantee you would call it shit and dump all over me anyway. Guarantee it.

To be clear, I'm not saying your cooking tastes like puke.

Just that "the average Joe", doesn't know what proper criticism looks like.
Two generations of hack movie critics makes them think it's just gut opinion.

That's what I'm sayin'. Yeah, the prose is what you could call "florid" -- they oughta try wading through Lovecraft, or Tolkien, even King. (And before you all commence with the ROOBA ROOBA ROOBA! -- I'm not saying I'm in their league. I'm saying if you want prose that eats like a meal, there's the guys to see for it.) Yes, he's got an accent. He's a late 21st century gunslinger in a post-United States where infrastructure and literacy have for the most part regressed to 19th century level for everybody but the middle class to wealthy urbanite, and even they're pegged to a 1940s standard of living. He talks like somebody who lives in that world.

But those points aren't constructive criticism -- they're subjective. They offer little to nothing in the way of "Hey, here's what you should fix and here's my suggestion for how I think you could fix it." And Liet's crap is a handful of steps away from "BURN THE WITCH!" So it gets treated accordingly by me.

Well, won't don't you spend some of the copious hours you spend posting shit on boards like ths to seperate the stuff and migrate the older posts over to the other blog? The "John Castle Writer" blog still looks like a blog without direction.

Just noticed Faceman's comment upthread. I think I've mentioned this before, but if I sleep 5 hours a day, I'm sleeping in. 4 hours is the norm. No idea why; I've always been like that. I can't even fathom how people can sleep for 7 or 8 hours.

To get every last tingle and prickle out of my brain, I need fucking 9.
But, I'm always woken up by fucking telemarketers, or the cat, or something, so I only ever get 6-7.
    I'm never properly rested.

Here's where I may be wrong about you, and maybe you can improve as a writer. Most people function distinctly suboptimally on one night of only four hours of sleep, and exceedingly few people function well at all on four hours regular nightly sleep. You are probably not getting enough sleep, and you are definitely displaying the symptoms of someone who isn't getting enough sleep. You're perpetually cranky, assholish, and unable to think nearly as clearly as you'd like to or believe yourself to. It may seem normal to you because things have been that way for so long, but it's not normal. I sincerely hope some other people echo this thought, since there's no way you'll accept it from me: Get some help with your sleep, ASAP.

Good hypothesis, but there are a couple of holes in it. My sleep duration hasn't been this way 'for so long' -- it's been this way since ever. Infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood. The other problem is that there are people even here on this board who don't push my buttons. Some of you just persist in bringing out the best in me. :)

It could well be sleep deprivation. I had assumed BPD, but maybe it's just exhaustion. That said, if I tell him to get some rest, he will no doubt take every stimulant he can find, just to ignore my advice, no matter how useful it might actually be.

Manic depression also fits. That's not it, but it's a plausible excuse. Could be Asperger's. Maybe paranoid delusion. Depends on which way I feel like playing it, I guess.
