It's a far, far better thing I do than I have ever done before. A far better resting place that I go to than I have ever known. *sniff* My allergies must be acting up, my eyes are all watery for some reason.
I just read ARK by Stephen Baxter. If you don't know his FLOOD/ARK duology, this is the second part and deals with the save-mankind-scenarios laid out in the first part. It mainly follows Ark 1, a spaceship. It's driven by an Alcubierre drive. Given the few frames with 'twisted' space effects this movie looks as if it's based on the very same theory. I like it when they don't just pull a rabbit out of a hat. Looking forward to that one a lot. It's generally a good year for space nerds.
Are you saying that Interstellar is a film adaptation of Stephen Baxter's Ark, or are you just pointing out the similarities?
Well given what we learn about the movie in the trailer there are certainly similarities (earth is in trouble, people go into space to find a new home). But that's a story which has been told often. Think about the 50s movie WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE to name just one. Nah, I was poining out that they seem to use the same underlying real world theory to make the journey happen. At least that's what it seems like in the trailer. Might be wrong though, it's just a few frames which look like an Alcubierre warp bubble. Also, I'd like to see FLOOD/ARK turned into a movie. Preferably by Roland Emmerich.
New trailer shows them landing on another planet. Like the others, it really tugs at the ol' heartstrings, with characters discussing the importance of what they're doing, and the consequences of what happens if they fail.
Cracked.com claims to have gotten a leaked draft of the script. Its obviously spoilery as all hell, but I don't think that its ruining anything by saying they seem to be freaked out by the idea that it might be a multi-layered film the way Inception was. Oh, and Nolan apparently is trying to use as little CGI on the film as possible.
Latest trailer, it literally just went up a couple of hours ago. It isn't the heartstring tugging kind that the others were, but holy shit does it look like this is going to be a gorgeous movie.
