So I can go build myself a house on the courthouse lawn and park my car in the lobby of the public library, right? Hey, those places are there for me and anyone else who wants to use them.

Would you build a house on any "lawn" sized piece of real estate? Would you park your car in any lobby? Talk about reductio ad absurdum...

Courthouse lawns can get pretty big, and city lots can get pretty small.

And why should I have to prove that I'd normally park my car in a lobby? It's public property; therefore it's my right to use it however I want.

One would hope that you could restrain your more insane impulses. Of course, given the tenor of your positions with regard to your perception of the "rights" of the criminal organization commonly referred to as government, that hope might be misplaced.

I heard on the radio that the whole "reason for the seizin'" is desert tortoises. The cattle might endanger them.
However the gub'mint KILLS these same tortoises when their population exceeds the land's carrying capacity.
    Go figure.

Yep. The cattle might off the tortoises. On the other hand, the government definitely is offing them. Naturally, it's the cattle that have got to go. Not like that mob getting fat off us is gonna push itself around, so Bundy is the lucky boy this week.

And the FAA as of an hour or two ago has closed off the air space surrounding the area in question. Take that as you will. Personally since nothing of consequence is out there I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet that this doesn't nose well for the bundy family.

    Wait, there are tortoises involved?

Fuck this guy and fuck his cattle, then. I hope he gets the chair. Tortoises are awesome.

Okay, so I expected FOX to be biased against the Feds and supporting this guy just because, but even they're admitting...

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/04/11/militia-groups-come-to-aid-nevada-rancher-in-battle-with-feds/

Not only has the land been off limits for a quarter of a century, but even before that the guy decided he didn't feel like paying for something he'd already accepted having to pay for in the past. He just decided one day he was special and the rules didn't apply to him any more.

This is most likely going to end badly for the guy, and it's going to be his own damn fault.

So he's a conservative, i.e. a Republican. We should expect better from him or better for him?

No, we shouldn't, on either count. I know you don't believe otherwise, but some people do. They're fucking retarded, and not just a little bit sociopathic.

Oh, wait. They're tortoises. Thought you were talking about humans for a second there.

Isn't that historically my line? What makes you think it'll pan out any better for you? Right, I forgot -- "progressives" generally operate under the hilarious delusion that they can turn the unworkable into gold just through the cachet of their own (presumed) brilliance.

 Epic fail. That hasn't happened even once.

From what I'm seeing the Tortises are nothing but an excuse. Elsewise why is the government killing them in droves in other areas of the state? What I am hearing from some quarters us that this can be traced back to Harry Reid and some shady Land deals he's been arranging. I'm camping now and will see if I can grab the links, but short of the long is that for his buddies, they have exterminated the turtles in areas they wanted to develop, there is a connection between this land and his other efforts, and apparently he is in tight with the BLM. Think the recent revelations about the link between Elija Cummings and the IRS. As for payment, apparently old man Bundy had no problem paying the fines, just had a problem with who he was paying. He had made over $7,000 in payments to the county instead until they told him they couldn't accept any more.

Short of the long there the waters are muddy as to who is in the right and who is in the wrong. It looks like both sides are playing dirty pool to one degree or another.

You missed my main point - the federal government is killing these same species of tortoises because the protections work so well they overpopulate, and the herd must be thinned. Yet the government claims the cattle are a threat, when it's the opposite. The cattle soften and otherwise temporarily disturb the soil so the tortoises have an easier time eating bugs, digging holes, etc.

Any time a conspiracy sounds so contrived, it usually is. This is a simple matter of eviction. The landlord has that right. Everything else is just rhetorical nonsense.

The rancher is obviously in the wrong. The U.S. government hasn't ever forced people off of their land unless it was for a really good reason.

One question that bears asking: Why is Bundy the last man standing? What happened to all the other ranchers that were out there?

They were the land owners. If not of the Federally-appropriated land around their ranches, certainly of their own ranches. So you haven't actually answered the question. Try it again.
