Stop lying that I'm lying. Most of the people you name are very powerful and influential. They have a much better capacity to survive a single allegation, or even a few provided they don't fall into criminal territory. Many people have a vested interest in protecting them. But take Hardwick. Is he fine? Exactly what has he been convicted of? What judgment rendered against him in civil court? Is he getting his high-profile jobs or income back if this all blows over? How about you spend two seconds to actually consider what I write before obnoxiously disagreeing with it?
We'll see if Hardwick is proven innocent if he'll get Talking Dead, @Midnight, or his Comic-Con gig back. I wouldn't hold my breath on every speck of it coming back. OTOH, fucking Duck Dynasty, and Duggars, and Mother June bounced right fucking back. If those monsters can slither back on TV, it'll be raging hypocrisy if Hardwick can't come back.
Louie Gohmert just slagged off the wrestlers because "none of them were kids when this happened", "they didn't directly tell Jordan" and "they're all represented by Liberal fake story inventors anyway" because Louie Gohmert needs violating in his anus and THEN seeing if he tells the cops or hangs back out of shame and/or fear, just like every other fucker who tries to excuse this shit.
Because that description didn't apply to Kevin Spacey, Louie C.K, Bill Cosby, or Harvey Weinstein? Fuck off. The creeps getting blacklisted are creeps that everyone has known were creeps for ages. Their misdeeds were open secrets that no one was willing to act on until they were fully public. What were Rose McGowan or Mira Sorvino convicted of before they were labelled "difficult" by Weinstein and their careers were kneecapped? Will Terry Crews receive a judgement in civil court?
Dodge. You seem to be of the opinion that allegation = guilt, so why not have the courage of your convictions? You don't correct an injustice against X by acting unjustly towards Y.
Your opinion of what constitutes injustice is worth exactly nothing these days. That said, no one here is arguing allegation equals guilt. You'd have no problem acknowledging that if you weren't such a liar.
So, do you agree with me that an innocent person's life being destroyed because of a well-publicized accusation is an injustice, or don't you? Okay, then you're arguing that it's okay to destroy an innocent person's life so long as some scumbags are punished. Omelets and eggs. I haven't lied about anything here, and if I misstate your position, it's only because you dodge the questions I put to you and leave me to draw my own conclusions.
You mean like refugees or asylum seekers who have their children stolen from them because your beloved president keeps accusing them of being murderers and rapists and fraudsters? Is that the sort of injustice you mean?
Throw James Gunn on the pile. Just fired by Disney for old tweets and other writings where he jokes about AIDS, pedophilia, 9/11 and other things guaranteed to trigger fainthearted snowflakes everywhere. Guardians 3 is officially doomed.
Not bullshit. The left can’t have it both ways. You want people given the boot for their comments, even from years ago, you can’t complain when your own comments get exposed.
https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/20/entertainment/james-gunn-exits-guardians-of-the-galaxy-3/index.html More than any other Marvel movies, the Guardians flicks are an extension of the director's quirky personality. Without Gunn, the films lose their soul.
Yes, bullshit. If Gunn belongs on the pile for stupid tweets, then Roseanne belongs on the pile, and Roseanne doesn't belong on the pile. The pile is for rapists, molesters, and dong-floggers.
Gunn is at least owning up to his comments and has apologized, stating he understands why Disney made their decision. That's the way to handle stuff like this. I wouldn't classify him anywhere close to "on the pile" with the shitheel rapists (e.g. Cosby) and the rape-apologists (e.g. @Paladin) who have been exhibited in this thread.
I'm no rape apologist, I merely pointed out that allegations broadcast and repeated by mass media have the power to destroy lives--and that this happens without any due process to the accused individual, any recourse for them if they're innocent, and any real penalty to those who purvey false or unproven allegations. Gunn's case isn't exactly what I had in mind, but it illustrates my point: somebody dug something up from years ago--something that seems to have no bearing whatsoever on Gunn's life and work today--and destroyed his Marvel gig with it (and, presumably, has put his entire career on a lower trajectory, if not outright ended it). Hardly seems right, doesn't it? But maybe he should be destroyed. And if you think otherwise, you're a pedo-apologist.
He sent those tweets before he made either of the GotG movies. Presumably he should have never been hired in the first place. So are they gonna give back the money?
This isn't the first thread you've defended rape in. What do the actions of private individuals have to do with due process? Due process is a limitation on government actors, not private actors. You can't claim a due process violation by private individuals, which is what the accusers and media reporters are. Complete and utter horseshit. There are loads of legal remedies available for when private individuals commit defamation or invasion of privacy. Individuals and companies are free to start or terminate their business relationship whenever they want, generally speaking. He's already made a shit ton of money and his career will still bounce back after this because he is handling it correctly.
You guys must not have gotten the memo... The list has enlarged to include pretty much anything that offends. So yeah, Roseanne got tossed on the list, and so does James Gunn. Joking about rape and child molestation? Yeah, he's a goner. And if you defend him you're a rape and pedo apologist. Just look up his tweets. They are disgusting even for as he claims that they are jokes. There is nothing funny about those tweets.
Repeating a lie won't make it true. I use "due process" here to mean that someone is consider innocent until there's solid evidence they're guilty, that they receive a fair hearing of their side of the story, that the claims against them are investigated before they're publicized, and that they don't suffer punishments before any allegations have been substantiated. If X claims Y did something horrible, and media reports that X claims Y did this, and Y has a lucrative career destroyed, and it later turns out that X had lied, who does Y sue? The media only reported the allegations. How does Y get back the opportunities lost? Those have moved on. How does Y's reputation recover when everyone recalls the headlines about the allegations, but not the backpage story that exonerates Y? Absolutely true. The indifference and lack of empathy in your statement is astonishing. Suppose GotG3 had his best ideas ever. Suppose he would've gotten more work on Marvel films. Suppose for a moment that someone's passions and goals in life are important to them, and that it actually harms them to have those dismissed by people who say "Oh, well, he'll be fine. He's got plenty of money already."
People who fan these flames will likely be surprised at who winds up getting burned by them. I think there's an assumption by those on the left that the media's got their back, and that only allegations against the "right" () people will get air time. It ain't so.
And let's be realistic: If the tweets that knocked Gunn out where written by someone like James Woods or Sean Hannity these hypocrites on this board would gladly throw them on the pile and proclaim victory. So now we have a bunch of rape and pedo apologists in this thread: @14thDoctor @Chad @Quest @Diacanu These guys, especially Diacanu, Chad, and 14thDoctor better hope no one ever connects Wordforge to their real-life jobs. Out of tens of thousands of posts, they have more than enough offensive stuff to get fired. Sure they and we know they were joking (for the most part) but their employers aren't going to care. Just like Disney didn't give two fucks that James Gunn might have been joking. Just joking about rape and child molestation is enough to give Disney executives a stroke. If there is any lesson from this it is that Disney will now be combing through all their high-level people's social media.
So you don't understand what due process is. Fair enough. I suggest contacting a lawyer if you're that legitimately concerned. Your ignorance of legal remedies doesn't make those remedies nonexistent.
The retraction never gets as much coverage as the initial media blitz. Hell, we see this with the media and Trump. Several times the media has gone ballistic on Twitter only to come back and say they were wrong. But that admission never gathers the steam that initial tweets got.
There are no legal remedies that can get your reputation back once destroyed. Even if you win a lawsuit there are still going to be tons of people who think you're guilty. You live in a fantasy land if you think that someone who's accused of rape falsely can bounce back from the accusation and go on with their life and not have issues. There's always going to be idiots, like you to be blunt, who will believe the accused are rapists.
You don't understand analogies. Fair enough. "Don't worry about medical malpractice. You can always sue the doctor if he amputates the wrong arm!"
